Characters most likely in the shadow realm: Caroline - 2 main episode appearances Duke - 4 main episode appearances Neville - 1 or 2 episodes Molly - 1 or 2 episodes Madge - 2 episodes plus movie scene Boco - one of first characters to leave the show back in 1998 Horrid lorries - 1 episode Stepney - 5 episodes plus 1 s12 cameo Arthur and Murdoch - each have about 4 episodes. Fergus - 2 episodes, retired due to damage to model during avalanche scene Sir Handel - last main appearance was when he was put in charge and told everyone to stay still. Has appeared since but not have any main role. Stanley - a character that they forgot about but always appeared in the background at tidmouth. Many other diesel characters like Derek, Mavis, Bear, Splatter and dodge etc. Oliver, Donald and Douglas in cgi era. The main issue the show has is creating characters that are underdeveloped and under utilised. Half the new characters in later series can easily be replaced by the older ones Ie Timothy with Boco, Porter with Arthur, Rebecca with Molly etc. There was so much push on certain characters, others never got any screen time or development of their own.
