Skating faster is the way. Mid-90s, I was a slow rider who could do all the flip tricks and grinds and slides. It wasn't until I was hanging out with a sponsored crew from a local shop that they started talking to me about going faster. It was scary at first but, after about a month or two, I found that I was landing far more tricks, grinding and sliding far longer, and was just far more consistent in my riding once I got over the fear. As long as you know how to fall properly, there's no real difference between falling fast and falling slow. I got so much better. And, before I knew it, I was sponsored by that same shop that the guys who were mentoring me were sponsored by. TLDR; Go faster. It's better.

"there's no real difference between falling fast and falling slow" is some sage advice
@richard_rico_norris20 күн бұрын
@@LotkaVolterra Yeah. I understand that, at a certain speed, it is more dangerous but, I've seen people fall incorrectly trying to slowly ollie a 3 stair and break their wrist. I've also seen experienced riders going fast af and just tuck and roll when they hit the ground and they get up laughing. I guess the real difference between falling fast and falling slow is how good and comfortable you are with falling down.
@Pitbullmgs42020 күн бұрын
Definitely learn how to fall!!! Roll don't land . Especially straight down to stop full fall on the wrists . Got a major sprain rn lol 🤣

When I was learning how to hit rails, I was told to go faster than you think you need and then some. Scarier but easier to stay balanced, locked in and in control. That's if everything goes right up to the point, locking in.

To avoid having a stray skateboard shoot into my bicycle spokes a possibly bending the wheel I usually park it upside down. It also makes it less quick for a thief to push or ride it away.

There's something safer about skating fast. I don't know if it's a physics thing or just that you're more alert at high speeds, but all of my worst injuries have come from dorking around at slow speed.
@EremEdition18 күн бұрын
There's a mental barrier that tries to tell you "Slow is Safe".. In my experience, generally speaking, I think "the more speed, the better". I go fast enough so when I pop, ill go into a slomo follow through in my head. This has mostly worked in my favor but definitely dusted me a handful of times. If you are nervous and hucking it, get a helmet for real

Wide manual pads and ledges are alot safer than narrow ledges and boxes.
