I'm roughing it in a 97' Toyota corolla, but the seats fold down into the trunk so i can comfortably spread out. Van life is a real thing. So many people live in there vans out here. It's the RVs that people get pissed about.

First time I lived in my Van was 1976.....I wonder if in 2017 the cops will leave you alone....
@nomadtrails7 жыл бұрын
I wasn't born at that time, but in a lot of places, its probably a lot worse. But when you live in a van, you get to go where you want to go. So in that light, cops aren't at all preventative. I drove across the country last summer and didn't have a single incident. Then again, the urban areas I went to were largely in outdoorsy mountain towns.

I bet the best place to camp overnight for a couple nights would be in a senior area....just talk to someone in the area and let them know you are traveling and mean no harm. The word would get out, as seniors love to talk and gossip, and they would keep an eye out for you as well.

I see these videos and see people in the comments section idolizing these van dwellers and wish they themselves can be like this one day. Let me tell you, VAN LIFE ISN'T FOR EVERYONE. There are many aspects that take a toll on you physically and mentally. Ever try sleeping in a place where people walk around and make noises literally 2 feet away from you with only a sheet metal in between? Especially at 2am...? You don't know who these people are, what they are capable of, or what they're up to.... It can be a mind fuck... A home is not just a shelter but a place where you know you're safe and can rest with peace of mind from all the elements of the world. SECURITY. It is the number 1 reason why people spend their entire lives working their asses off all day everyday. To be secure financially, physically, mentally and to provide for self and for the loved ones around them. There is nothing secure about living in a van, and it's certainly not for everyone.

very cool, however those vans are insanely slow unless you rebuild the engine. I've always wanted one, vw has had a concept next gen bus on hold for years.
@AndySo20007 жыл бұрын
Yeah well no need to be rude, why don't YOU think before YOU make a statement. Everyone knows those buses top out at 30 mph. How do travel on a highway going 30? The engines on vw buses also blow up fairly easily and to maintain one is expensive. I'm not saying he has to go fast, but you have to have a car that can at least get up to 60, it's illegal to drive below the speed limit on the highway. Since you aren't very smart I will say it's not practical to drive a vehicle that goes only 30 mph. You aren't very bright and way to take things so seriously! Get a life loser! Fuck you little wannabe bitch! By the way when you act rude like that, expect rude back! You pick fights with people, that says a lot about your intelligence. So you don't have to act like you're on some higher plane of intelligence with your comments on youtube. Another thing you must be a low life to write on my comment, you must have a lot of time on your hands!

Van Camper here. I'm a pro level drummer who never lived in a van so I figured it was about time, haha. I Camp in San Clemente usually. Met Jeff Read here. Hung in his bus. We both know eachother. Big funforLouis fan since 2012, Maker Studios fan since 2009, also. Camped V.B. on Pacific Ave and showered at the Culver City L.A. fitness too, haha. Was blown away watching the pros at V.B. skatepark when I was there. Insane! For the van, you need to get an "isolator". It's specifically made to switch between the back batteries and the car battery. Also, I have heavy duty 12 foot long jumper cables ($10 at Walmart). Worth it! I have 4 years experience Vancamping all over the SW. Question; Is it tough camping with a pop top in L.A?? Or does L.A.P.D. have bigger fish to fry than to knock on people's windows at night and say: 'Ahh, we have an ordinance. No sleeping in your vehicle overnight'...? I know alot of the Sherriff's here in S.C, so I park inland a bit and I'm fine. But, It really, really helps to have a squeeky clean record (not even a parking ticket). The cops will leave you alone 98℅ of the time with no impound threats.

@FloatingOrbProductions7 жыл бұрын
There are a lot of different ways to become location independent. We live in the Age of the Internet and which allows us the more freedom than ever.
@spencerkochel43907 жыл бұрын
Vlogs always dodge this question with a vague answer. You can never pin it down. I think it's a bit dishonest to push this lifestyle without showing how its paid for. Even if its partially funded by his parents or a trust fund, at least be real about it.
@DaRKHuNTeRMK7 жыл бұрын
+Spencer Kochel exactly.. this channel promotes positivity, and the whole do what you love shit but it also puts a wrong idea in the heads of all of these brain dead kids who think that they will work a shity job for a few months buy a van and go explore the world ... its not really that simple.. i would appreciate a new channel (second channel) with uncut interviews with these people unlike this 9minute ad
@spencerkochel43907 жыл бұрын
The Age of the internet also makes us more dependent than ever. Slave to phone or computer. This lifestyle is not cheap. Gas, food, maintenance, unexpected parking tickets, health care, and so much more. What realistic job can you hold with this type of living situation?Graphic Design, Voiceover, Vlog Ad Revenue? To make a decent living to afford this those occupations demand a lot of time. On top of that, you don't punch in for 30 minutes a day remote and make several grand a month. No one ever explains it, instead gives some response like, "internet allows us to live free". Give me a break. You need to come from a affluent background to afford this. There's nothing glamorous about living in your car when you have to. I'm all for trying to do what you love. Hell, I have lived grimey and worked shitty jobs to try and have all the time possible to do things I love to do(Skateboarding, Music, etc) Its such a pipe dream to see all of these types of videos putting unrealistic ideas into peoples heads like its easy to do. I have friends that do this kind of stuff, and guess what? They have well off folks that contribute a large portion of the money needed. There's absolutely nothing wrong with that, but my gripe is they try to push a different narrative as to how this type of lifestyle is possible. Stop the Smoke and Mirrors
@MM-or1qn7 жыл бұрын
I think the idea of this channel is to show that it's possible, even if it's short term. What we don't see is where they have to take a dump, when their vehicle breaks down, having to find a parking spot for the night, etc. But that's social media right? There aren't many people who post on Facebook or Instagram that kind of stuff...you only post pictures of exotic vacations, the amazing food you eat, gorgeous sunsets, etc. Vanlife isn't for everyone...it's for those who don't have commitments such as a mortgage or school for their kids obviously. I have friends who live out of their Honda Element and they've been perfectly fine. They find odd jobs (construction, focus groups, medical studies) to make ends meet and they eat the most boring food but their reward is to be able to wake up in a national park, go hiking for the day and star gaze at night. You have to be very resourceful in terms of fixing things or flexing your budget. It's doable without rich parents as long as your expectations aren't in the clouds.
