Skated every night of the week except Tuesday for 8 years in the 80s. This place in Ohio is the most natural compared to the way we skated in 80s. We just wore a bit more clothes and had bigger hair. These cats are fit and so lucky to have that wood floor. Nothing like a huge gleaming wood floor to skate on. They skate and not stand around or stand in the middle. If you got wheels on then keep going. Nice to see this younger generation skate like you are suppose to. Bravo 👏

It looks like the skaters had adapted modern dance styles and ice skating jumps into rollar skating. Grew up skating in the late 60s and 70s on the east side of Cleveland in Painesville. This has been fun to watch.

Had all that and most every move in here in Wisconsin/ Illinois border in the 80's. when people fell down at my old rink me and my friends would race to jump over their bodies, I'd do 180's and 360's over people...

@giggles1219 Ya, I guess I was a dooche bag. I don't know why we felt like it was ok to do that, but If I saw my 13 year old self doing that I would probably think he and his friends were being insensitive too. *as for falling on someone I should have been more considerate, but I did go to the rink and skate dripping with sweat from head to toe for at least 12 hours a week. I have abnormal stamina and being athletic is the only thing I have ever been able to do right, so I have always been missing some social skills and I was kind of doing what the others were already doing I was just twice as good from practicing 3 times more and twice as hard.

@giggles1219 Skating was something I did to escape my weaknesses, but jumping over people was obviously just my weaknesses coming full circle. A few times when I was skating at the rink in my town or the next town I heard a bunch of girls screaming because of how I was moving around the floor. I tried every weekend to hear those screams again but it only happened a few times. I was just jumping over people for attention, same as jumping my bicycle over people or ollie-ing skateboard over people or jumping over fences or off of a house or whatever I could do lots of coordinated tricks in the air with bicycles and skateboard, roller skates just felt significantly easier to coordinate everything with. I could even do an ollie on my skateboard with my rollerskates on. It was still a risk when jumping over people but when I saw them doing it instead of being the voice of reason and leadership I was an insecure 13 year old that just saw how I could do it better and more ease.

My dad is an old Canadian hockey player that was young in the 60's/ 70's , very agile on ice (and still has his reflexes in order now in his 70's). He told me friends convinced him to come down to the roller rink in a big US city and it was the first time he saw black people skate. Till this day when he tells me about it on occasion he just shakes his head and throws his hand like "Pfff! Those guys can do anything I did not know WHAT I was seeing!? "

Play these about 3 times: Half hour into the skate session, mid way, and toward the end of yhe night. People will be on que to Jam. Remember: Fast skaters on the outside & beginners/slow skaters inside. @evajodixon5935 At my rink in the 80's everyone skated like jam with speed boots; I had speed boots and skated fast too, but somehow I had that JB in my DNA, cuase I was flying around the rink skating every which directions with smooth loose style. lol jumps spins air or ground, hand springs, breakdance moves, feet and legs turning all kinds of directions. lol! I do miss these times. these videos bring all the memories back and I see some stuff I wasn't doing but it really takes me back.

I grew up on the East Side. We used to go swimming at Woodhill Park where there was an outdoor rink but I never tried to skate. In fact, I have never put on a pair in my life. I left Cleveland and Ohio decades ago but still have family there. Respect to my hometown.
