Light feet. Hold the pump up and use the centrifugal force to flow with ramp. Best skate tutorials on yt
@kevskatesNM73 Жыл бұрын
When I learned these (in the shallow end)…we called them “front double truckers” because we had this kamikaze technique where we didn’t even know which truck went on first- kinda “lazy front leg” technique I guess. Then after watching friends who knew the trick proper…I learned how to do them “the right way” on kinda 4-5 foot walls in the flow bowl. I keep hearing homie say “just one more inch, I’m turning out of it” and THAT is the battle. I think he has enough speed and pump, but he’s turning out early. I think that is why I keep them pretty good on little walls but kinda end up just slashing the back truck by habit on anything bigger. Another great vid!

Mate..Thank You! This is THE trick so many of us old fart Salba-wannabes-who-never-had-bowls-in-our-youth want to nail! The crazy part for me is I can smash a frontside 50-50 carve grind, at speed around a corner like that, or even a straight coping into and round the corner...But, standing kick-turn frontside carve grinds have always previously scared me. Watching and listening to these lessons has made me realise I just need to smooth out the carve, get used to leaning on my heels, make the coping my apex and to aim into the middle of the corner, not the first half. Problem now is I'm off work for two weeks but it's raining 🌧 like hell all week! There are wooden indoor bowls, but they're a bit big and slippy to practise new moves on. I'd just end up doing the stuff I already do. I can backside slash grind in most bowls, even vert, I do struggle with big speed and massive transitions, but you have taught me I'm pumping too soon in them. Just need to get out and put it all into practise. My biggest one is going to be pushing normal, not Mongo. I think I've finally nailed it! Thank You. We grew up thinking that was just it, you did it like that. We only had still shots of tricks in magazines to try and work out how they did it, for many years. Bones videos just seemed impossible, way beyond our abilities. Everything happening so fast... Now, at 55, I just wanna get out and rip. My admiration goes out to the dude on this lesson, not easy to conquer that fear of the coping, whilst being filmed. Thanks to him for doing this with you, it has really highlighted my main obstacles to mastering this simple, but rad trick. Thanks again 😎

Pumping up is the lifting of your weight, to ride higher up the ramp. I was pumping to early, fast and not long enough. In essence my timing was off. I needed to slow my pump timing to get a longer pump up the ramp.

Question: once you have the basic frontside carve grind down would you eventually aim to lock the rear heal wheel into the coping to extend the duration of grind? (but you’re still inside the bowl, not on top 50 50 style). Or would this be recipe for hang up? Love the channel!
@SkateparkLessons2 жыл бұрын
Thanks Simon, good question, yes you lock in on back foot heel wheel to hold a fs 5-0 stand up grind and lean into the bowl or ramp. Lean angle of your grind changes depending on the curve or straight section of the ramp/bowl 💙🛹💙

I know exactly what homie is doing- that’s because it’s a source of frustration to me. In our backyard we have a long, mellow 4 foot pocket with pool blocks that I keep jumping off of (or just slash the back truck)- despite the fact that there is an almost identical one with steel coping at the skatepark that is sorta “go-to” for me. Just like in this vid: I KNOW I can do it but I either turn out early or at best slash the back truck at the last second. 100% a mental thing. I’ve kinda resigned to thinking the first couple might be “on accident” to teach me that I won’t die and/or will PROBABLY discover it’s the same thing. I know that’s not very proactive- but do you guys think there is value in “trying less hard” and just carving high until the pocket “gives it up?” We need to learn, like lots of things in skating…that it will feel SO MUCH EASIER than we are thinking. I DO “light foot” front slashes on pool blocks…but with carve grinds I kinda don’t. This comes from the fact that when I am NOT “trying” this trick- I’ll get my wheels on the pool coping/ or kinda baby scratchers just carving fast and being stoked.

On a front carve grind I had a reckless moment and broke my left scaphoid and the surgeon put a screw in it. With that in mind though I will say this: when I fell I was going way faster than the ones before that worked well. Going too slow is definitely dangerous because you don’t stick to the wall. JB Would you say that carve grinds should be able to be done at really fast speeds or are you better to learn to go into Smith or stand up frontside 50-50 when you’re going really fast? Thanks for all you’re doing!!
@SkateparkLessons10 ай бұрын
They only need to be done fast enough so you stick to the corner as you ride through it, including hitting the coping. Faster definitely helps but to much speed can make you panic. So make sure speed and control stay together 💙🛹💙

Learning to skate at a gnarly bowl isn't the best idea imo. Learning or relearning to skate at a skatepark is also a bad idea. Take it to a parking lot for months or years, get the basics down a lot. Too many people think skateparks are the only place to skate nowadays.
@SkateparkLessons2 жыл бұрын
Typically I disagree, parking lots can be fun but are usually littered with rocks, pebbles, and inconsistencies. Skate parks are usually more smooth and clean of debris so you can focus more on tricks and technique and less on constantly pushing to keep speed or looking for rocks. Plus skateboarding and popping tricks on a smooth surface feels sooo good. 💙🛹💙

To add in the 80s I skated home made ramps 1/4 pipes and had one. I stopped that and switched to surfing at 15. I never stopped using my skateboard as my mode of transportation around town but only in the last year started back at transition skating. I have to say JBs skills at teaching separate him and makes him the best.
