I feel skaven has such a dramatic gap between the top 3 lords and bottom 3 lords but within the groups of 3 they are all very close with eachother like you cant go wrong with Skyre/Moulder or Eshin as all 3 are very strong and have fun campaigns. While I find Mors/Rictus and Pestilens absolutely lacking in comparison and I struggle to find anything that makes them stand out over any other LL really

Queek was even worse if not for master warlock engineers since loyalty penalties made your caster lords pretty much inaccessible. With Warlock Engineers he still get caster lord option. Still, his unique skills suck. I wish they made him like a Chieftan LL same way as Krok'gar is LL for Saurus Scar Veterans and hero stack.

I guess you could say the old factions maybe are better for new players since they feature fewer deep mechanics. Skaven in gneral play so differently from any other faction that I could see the 3 new clans being overwhelming for a new player.

When I first started I used pestilins. Less things to worry about made things good to experiment with the units rather than be pigeon holed into weapons teams or monsters.

Yeah, I just did a Deathmaster Snikch campaign and it was great! Such a variety of enemies and potential allies nearby: Grand Cathay, Dark Elves, Lizardmen, Warriors of Chaos, Vampire Counts, Vampire Coast, and Greenskins

To be fair, for clan Eshen, you only get penalty for recruitment cost but not upkeep. So initial cost might be high, but you aren't really limited in what units you use.

Yes! Truly Clan Moulder, the clan focused on creating Rat Ogres & other large units, is incredibly fun to play against Kislev, the faction completely comprised of ranged units!

Clan Mors is pretty fun, he can pump out Stormvermin on a high level quite quickly and you don't have any competition since you can field lots of armies with high loyalty and completely ignore that mechanic. And for a Skaven he is a beast against others.

Tretch just keeps getting better. I heard that in 2.2 they will make it so that not only does he gain public order when breaking pacts but he will now gain it permanently. Super powerful, public order, Tretchery! WOW. Be a craven. Honestly though? It is assassins, guns and mutants are all in my top so they rotate. Throt is a boring lord though, he just looks like a slightly fatter skaven.

Ikit can be a tricky start because you have malagor in the middle of 'spain', he'll make a herd stone which means any other ruins he makes you can't colonize, so you end up having to fight him early and I found his starting army a bit challenging to deal with, especially his chariots.

Im currently in an Ikit campaign where I let Malagor live, sure hes essentially taken over Tileas area but that means hes a great buffer for enemy factions like The Fey Enchantress. You can basically go undisturbed to the East but that does rely a lot on the Skavenblight tier 4 cheese, its still something worth doing imo but if you choose not to then you have to rely on baiting Malagor out

His chariots were TOUGH. It was really difficult keeping them in a spot where my rattling guns could deal with him due to his mass and how great the AI is at being super annoying with their chariots now. Easily the hardest battle I fought in the campaign

Something you can do that's hilarious is if you book it over while he's sieging estalia's capital you can join the battle as a ally to him... and then force him to do all the work while spamming friendly fire spells from ikit and your engineer and nuking the biggest clump of beastmen you can find. then when the battle is 'won' declare war and wipe him out on your turn.

There must be a final defense battle between Belegar, Skarsnik and Queek as the end of these three faction. And make the prosperous of Karak Eight Peaks more like wood elves awakening forest- the other two faction would constantly generate army to attack K8P unless you win in the final defense.

Ikit claw was my first skaven experience in w2. He fits my playstyle very well. I tend to use lots of artillery and missile units and having a faction that specializes in that was great. It blew my mind that they would also have actual nukes. Those nukes made battles that would have been decisive defeats into decisive victories. They are a huge advantage over everything. I can't wait to play him again in ie and build the warlock skaven empire once again

I absolutely love clan Eshin. And while I completely understand why people prefer Warlock Engineers to other heroes, I think that the Lore of Stealth is severely underrated and probably overpowered. It's also the rarest casting lore in the game!

I’ve never been in a situation where I’d rather have Lore of stealth over Plague. Plague does far more damage, provides crowd control, and has better buffs. Comparing stealth with Warlocks also doesn’t work seeing how they don’t share a hero cap with them but with the plague monks. If you still want to compare them with Warlocks they still fall short. Warlocks provide campaign movement range, Ammo increase, range damage increase, range increase , a net for flying units, and more damaging spells.

I think one thing you should have mentioned as a big plus for Clan Eshin is that Snicktch is one of the few characters that has damage boost based one % of missing hp letting him finish people off.

Before watching my order would be: Pestilens, Mors, Rictus, Moulder, Skyre, Eshin (worst to best). I love ikit but Eshin has a great start in encourages varied asymmetrical warfare builds and is one faction that can use espionage without the need to move heroes, while not feeling as OP as Skyre and Moulder. (40+ mins later) Just finished watching, I can see why you placed them that way, you made some good points, for me Eshin will always have a special place. Thanks for the great video sparty.

Ikkit is my favorite lord but Moulder is where its at. You can basically confederate all the other lords and then tailor their already buffed units with genetical enhancements. Would Tretch like to have undead frenzied vanguard deployed stormvermin with extra missile resist in his army? I think he would. Same for Eshin and the others, just take their iconic units and make them even deadlier.

I was back and forth between him and Tretch, but I think playing AS Tretch then confederating Mors is the way to go. That way you get allllll those juicy Stormvermin buffs. I agree, queek is wayyyy cooler. He's cooler than most of the skaven, tbh

@@italianspartacus While Stormvermin are cool, where Queek shines is with Chieftain, take 7 Chieftain with warpstone hoarder and fill with flamethrower early and doomwheel later on, makes your army cost less than 2000g and can roll over a lot of things. Makes Queek really tanky with all that wardsave bonus the chieftains gives him, Even auto resolve is insanely strong with this army comp unlike stormvermin army which takes a lot more casualties by autoresolve. Spreading Chieftain as frontline allow your flamethrowers to easily fire, which obliterate armies in seconds.

So one thing you forgot to mention, is the Beastman who will eventually go to war with you in Warhammer Spain as Ikit. He is a BEAST (no pun intended) in the early game, and almost makes Taurox look tame, as Taurox will run himself ragged, while the AI for the boss in Spain is quite smart, and will rest between rampages, not giving you time to sneak-scurry murder-death-kill him. It used to be an easy steam roll through Spain and Italy, and then you just farm Lady of Casualty replenishment for her trait for all your engineers before taking over the world in the name of Skavendom. But if you can't get him off your back, you will be blocked from expanding into Spain cause of his Beastman stone, and forced to go to after Italy, and you will quickly get bogged down in wars with the Dorfs, Vampire Counts, Wood Elves, and the Greenskins.

I agree. It just made me not play as lords that rely on penalizing you with it. I already don't super enjoy Delfs and Skaven that much, so any lord that kicks your ass for having more lords/heroes is usually a pass for me. In fact, I only ever played Queek with the tutorial activated to hear him say "Do not fail me-me!" ...SO now I have zero reason to play him.

Skrolk was my first Skaven in WH2, and my first campaign win in WH. He was very fun, especially all those plagues. Although I never did figure out how to utilize plague monks. Edit: Couldn't Queek take over Crookback and end up with the best Stormvermin? Edit2: Wow, just read the 2.2 patch notes for Skaven and they replaced both the +3 ranks for Stormvermin and the Vanguard deployment bonuses for Tretch with different ones. (But he does get Vanguard for 3 turns after declaring war)

Lorewise,, Nurgle and Skrolk are kind of nemesis. Nurgle is about the eternal cycle of decay and rebirth and change. Clan Pestilens is just death and decay.

Biggest issue I ran into with Tretch is starting mext to Imirik. Early Skaven have few answers to an army that starts with a dragon.

I'm guessing that it's you just being better at the game than me, but I was absolutely SHOCKED when you said that Skrolk can quite easily expand and unite the south. Saurus are hellish to fight with early tier skaven and plague monks fall of super hard late game because of the lack of buffs in the tech tree or skill lines. It's just generally been my experience that Gor-Rok and Tenhinhuan just eliminate my only possible nearby allies, and then take turns slapping me, with Gor-Rok eventually using his "My Saurus don't get debuffed by your contact effects now" rite and just wiping the floor with me. Still, it is nice to see people that can enjoy Skrolk more than I do. Edit: Oooohhhh okay. You're talking about how Skrolk's campaign will be when they finally fix his bugged plagues. Got it. That makes everything make more sense to me.

I started a Snikch game last night, and their start seems really tough, Skaven don't fair very well against savage orcs, especially when the bulk of your troops are going to be low-damage missiles or skavenslaves/clanrats :(

I played the Queek campaign hoping to have a cool 1v1 with Skarbrand, but he's so focused on dwarves and 8 peaks that it made moving in Skarbrand's direction rather hard. Skarbrand was also really weak though. Would love to see that as a more central campaign mechanic.

What you're saying isn't untrue but you don't comment on the strength of their positions or some hidden mechanics. EG maybe Throat is more fun than ikit klaw as an LL(apart from ikit klaw's nuke) but Ikit klaw's start position is sooo much fun and gives variety in how you wanna play him. i feel like you didn't play any of these campaigns and you only mention the bare necessities at a glance.

Skrolk's start position is (for the average player based on what I've seen) absolute hell because of the early Lizardmen enemies that can kinda just rip apart early game Skaven. I honestly don't know why he said it was a strong start. Maybe he's just that much better at the game than us, or maybe it's what you said. It does feel a bit like a review of their "on paper" strengths, not their "in practice" strengths.

I actually preferred Queek’s campaign over Snikch’s campaign weirdly enough. I just found fighting grand Cathay extremely annoying, especially since they pretty much always end up making confederations throughout the course of the campaign and totally envelope the starting territory for Snikch. That said, shadowy dealings is awesome. It’s just too bad that plunge into anarchy takes quite a while to get since it’s a great way to deal with stupid Grand Cathay.

You know. . . The complain you had about Clan Skryre is kind of pointless. You said it takes a while until they get their stuff since the mortars are on tier 4 for example. . . I don't think that 5 turns to have Skavenblight on tier 4 is such a long time. Sure the buildings take a bit longer but. . . I dare to say that you have your doomstack at turn 25 at the latest and you are ready to stomp the world around you! Of course I don't want to undermine your rating, it's your ranking of course, but I would argue that Clan Skryre is simply the best overall. Making the powerful weapon team units more powerful and making one army nearly free due to Ikit's traits, while having such a powerful legendary lord is incredible. Yes, they nerfed winds of magic. . . But you don't need as much magic to wreck armies with the buffed warp lightning! I. . . Just think Clan Skryre is the very best Skaven clan in the game due to all of it's benefits! All you have to do is to do the trick where you get Skavenblight to tier 4 on turn 5 - or 4 if Ranald smiles upon you and gives you enough food from sacking Estalia - which allows Skryre to become much stronger much faster than any other faction (controlled by a player).

I tried Tretch and he wasn't that bad. His playstyle was pretty fun...if Im remembering right (it was well over a year ago and dozens of TWW campaigns ago) it was all about ambushes, retreats and traps. It felt like it encouraged a tactical approach moreso than most campaigns. Admittedly, I am very partial to ambush campaigns or any that encourage more complex strategies (Marcus, Oxyotl)...but anyway, I thought Tretch's campaign didn't suck. Id venture as far as to say it was quite good. Also, it's pretty funny his lore being that he's famous for fleeing, showing up after his certain death(s) and just being a complete weaselly shithead among a race characterized by weaselly-ness and shitheadery. Things that are actually funny in fantasy/scifi or any of the nerd realms I love is sooo rare. Actual attempts to be funny in the gente almost always falls painfully flat, at least imo. So it's a bonus for me that he's just not this badass or brilliant mind...he's just the shittiest guy among the shittiest guys and it works. But mainly the gameplay is fun. The comedy is speculation on my part. Total war won't be a font of laughter itself, but yea he's fun.

Hey, im playing Throt for the first time, and I dont know if im getting a bug or not, but from looking online, I see there are some problems with the laboratory. After battles, Im getting the mutagen. I end my turn, and next turn I have zero mutagen. I see the upgrade that increases the storage capacity that prevents it from degrading, which makes me think that it is not supposed to be removed at the end of the turn. Am I missing something, or do I have a bug?

The stuff you get from battles is growth juice. When you have enough juice, you can claim a batch from the growth vat to get mutagen and units in the recruitment pool. When you hover over resources you get information about them.

for me i think ikit is overrated. he's to safe. I really like playing tretch and queek cause i like to play lore armies and realy go into vermentide playstyle. so go wide over high, lot of clanrats and slaves. with ikit you wanna go weapon teams and it is kinda to easy. only harder part is beating morgur if you want t kill him off quickly but if you did that all challenging opponents are further away. cause tilia or brettonia don't really threaten you and even WE you can deal with quie easily and they really get fucked by ambushes

Actually that's not true. Queek is REALLY STRONG but he's the least fun. Same thing with Tyrion coming up, he's very strong and gets super rich in his campaign but once you take ulthuan it gets super boring. It's mainly what will keep upi engaged and wsnt to continue playing
