“Minds forget, scars remember” perfect quote. He suffered from PTSD. Classic changes in personality as well as physical manifestations such as catatonia and nervous tics/habits. He probably had more sense than a lot of them. Clearly though he was traumatized - Hup bashed him and he recoiled when many Skeksis would simply have torn him apart. One of my favorite videos. Thanks!

Listening to your description of the Treasurer gave me an eerie realization. The idea of "Silent Evil." Unlike SkekUng's ruthless anger, the Chamberlain's sniveling malice, or SkekMal's savage cruelty, SkekShod's evil is possibly the worst of all: that of cold indifference. Shod viewed all things, including his fellow Skeksis, as beneath him. He felt neither loyalty or malice, but was simply viewed their lives as petty and pointless. Sketched represents the cold indifference of the Cosmos, almost in the same skein as a Lovecraftian diety.

Aw SkekShod, the first abused Skeksis. We have confirmation from the preview of the Dark Cry’s beastiary that he was given the Collectors role after getting his head blown up. No doubt will be hearing him speak during the second season.

Such a pitiful character. He reminds me of a dissident from a totalitarian country who speaks out, only to lose his courage once he is tortured and lives the rest of his days to tow the party line, wallowing in self loathing and pity. He also raises an interesting "what if...?" question: what if his example had inspired the Skeksis to abandon skekSo at the beginning? How would that have changed Thra's subsequent history?

If I would have to rate my favorite Skeksis it would be, SkekSo, SkekUng, SkekTek, SkekLach and finally SkekShod. To me, SkekShod's robes were the most interesting among the many flamboyant or insane fashion choices of the other lords especially that large jewel covered caller of his. I also liked the Treasurer's exposed teeth that were similar to SkekSo's own crocodiles maw, but I never knew that he was a stutterer. It was probably due to the horrendous beating the Emperor gave him, or maybe SkekShod was simply a Skeksis of few words. In fact, I think the last bit sums up the Treasurer perfectly about how if the walls could talk and if SkekShod didn't have his stutter imagine the stories he could tell.

SkekMal is my number one favorite Skeksis, SkekUng is my second favorite, and SkekShod is my third favorite. I really liked his design, with his hooked teeth coming out of a long withered snout, and his black clothing. I also feel sorry for him, being physically assaulted to the point of possible brain damage. I also like how he has standards over who should be emperor.

When I was 11, I used the illustration of SkekShod from the book "The World of the Dark Crystal" as the basis of a multimedia art project (physical multimedia-- not digital). I still have that school art piece from 1982 (although it could actually be from 1983, but close enough)!

0:35 , 1:04 , 2:00 and 2:40 This explains why SkekShod seemed so mysterious in the film. Literally the only time we hear him speak is when the Skeksis were trying to pick a new emperor. SkekShod turned to SkekZok and said in a weak and scratchy voice: “You should be the Emperor.” I have heard nothing about this as of yet, 3:34 but I am curious if SkekShod was called back to the Castle to basically replace SkekLach the Collector who perished in AOR. A collector and a treasurer are more similar than some might think, as they both involve collecting and hoarding riches. I can only imagine how happy SkekShod would have been if he was given the Collector’s job and hoard of many riches. 4:22 , 6:03 and 6:28 The similarity between SkekShod and his counterpart UrYod is very plain and simple. Much like UrZah and SkekZok with rituals, SkekShod and UrYod both had roles that involved keeping track of time, only one was for selfish reasons and the other selfless.

I think I identify with this Skeksis more than any of the others, but in an opposing way. I do *not* talk much to others unless it's in written form, or I'm portraying someone else when in a play and share the PTSD background, but I didn't start out like skekShod, though. I was the shy, quiet kid in elementary through high school, not beaten into submission for being outspoken or challenging authority, but wishing I was invisible a lot of the time. Worked hard to reverse that, thankfully. The materialism this Skeksis shows for monetary items and shiny things reminds me of a family member of mine. Always wanting the newest, flashiest thing, but quite the penny-pincher when it comes to actually laying down cash for things. Complains about how things aren't on sale for $1 off, and such. That would be skekShod in the real world, a combination of my quieter former self and my relative. If I do ever write a story that uses the Skeksis, it'll definitely be something with skekSa and this guy in it. Maybe skekGra, too, back when he was The Conqueror. I gotta agree with DwM when it comes to keeping skekGra off the Skeksis bio list. Didn't he say he was going to do a separate series on the Heroes of Thra? Could've sworn that was why he isn't featured in these bios. I could be wrong, though. Before I sign off, Hup is the Podling man, man! Charging in there with his spoon swinging like Onica wielding that Powdered Nulroot container. Just, bam! No hesitation whatsoever! You gotta love it. For Thra, for Jim and for Podling Justitia!
