That moment you realize that if the situation had been different SkekTek may in fact have become a much more noble character. The hesitancy of wanting to drain life if at the very least for the crystal's sake denotes and understanding that ALL other Skeksis lack.

The emperor was too terrified of death and obsessed with the power Draining gelfling provided. The scientist was the only one taking a look at actual empirical evidence and seeing the path to annihilation. But he was so disrespected that it couldn't be stopped

He's the Scientist, he knows the cause and effect of the world and is smart enough to look ahead and see that draining too many gelfling too quickly would worsen their future prospects. The more the darkening spreads, the more dangerous the world becomes and the harder for its inhabitants it is to live. The harder for them to live, the more the population will decline, on top of the routine population decline from draining essence.

Not enough people give Jason Issacs the credit he deserves for this role. He along with the character’s puppeteer really made this character everything I hoped he would be.

Remember earlier that the Chamberlain said they shouldn't waste the Gelfling so quickly? When the Emperor asks the Scientist how many they would need, makes me wonder if he's taking what the Chamberlain said into consideration.

I like skeksos design but hate his personality I like skektek because he had some mercy and showed more emotion (before everything else happened ) and his design is cool Now skekmal I enjoy a lot not just because of his design but the fact that he’d hunt those he deemed strong enough to hunt Skeksil has always been my favorite but will not be in the conclusion Conclusion skekmal and skektek were both cool but perished in different periods

Okay I know this was posted last year but, I'm actually wanted to talk about SkekTek really quick (sorry if its so long). So I know from this clip he does seem to really understand a lot and knows something is wrong (like the darkening and the crystal growing weaker and weaker) I think he does care in a way that he doesn't want to fully ruin Thra because of their actions. He literally does sometimes backtalk to the others even the emperor that what their doing is hurting Thra and the crystal but they don't listen to him. He's always treated so badly and with a lot of disrespect from the others and even gets locked up in his own lab and doesn't eat at all while the others do. Plus, I know he did knock the essence out of the chamberlain's hand but he didn't take it that wouldn't have happened plus it wasn't even SkekTek's fault but, he still got punished either way. This video right here shows he does care in a way (yes i know he killed some characters and all that but this is before cause he lost it do to the others treating him so badly) the way he was looking at the emperor when he walked over to Sidetic, he was slowly looked at him with a few whimpers (I think that's what I heard not fully 100% sure) and when he started to strangle the Sidetic you can tell in his voice and how he was acting he didn't want them to get hurt or worse. The Emperor knew it would effect him because he said it was his true friend and kept strangling it for a good measure just to see the scientist in pain after he left go and left feeling accomplished SkekTek quickly walked over to the Sidetic to see if they were okay and calmly hushing them telling them their gonna be okay. I know this is long but from what I seen from the episodes he does seem to care about a few things even know he is killing and taking essence from the gelfling and all that. (I'm sssssso sorry ths is long but I really feel like skektek did have some compassion in him for a while)

I believe he was the very last of his kind (excluding skekGra) to hold some morality until he snaps at the end from the mistreatment. Also when augrah begged him not to drain her and mentioned they were close once, Skektek even hesitates and looks to Skekso in hopes he would reconsider.

@@GDeNofa I know, I really feel bad for him cause I mean yes he was bad but he probably did just so he could try to be respected from the others or he most mostly forced to do it and well from what i see they usually did that. Anyways, I really wished he just left the castle or just not let himself get consumed by the abused and neglect he took...SkekTek really deserved a lot more better l

Poor Scientist. The Emperor asked a question that would be next to impossible to answer off the cuff like that. How many Gelfling do they need to drain to achieve immortality? Well it depends. For one thing how much essense does once Gelfling produce? Is it the same for all or does things like age/health/vitality affect the amount harvested? Also, how much "life" does one Gelflings essense provide to a Skeksis? How long does it last? Is the effect finite or does it have a cumulative effect, the more you drink? It would require extensive study to actually find a solid answer to that question. All the Scientist could do was throw out some random number he hoped would satisfy.
