When I saw this vault I thought it was so beautiful and you know I'm going to have a peep inside.
Not only did we find coffins and natural decay of 100s of years, we found a skeleton. After editing, what I find amazing is what looks like a chalice, possibly silver or maybe even Gold. I do not name the location for this purpose.
it may be just pewter but who knows, the place is well sealed up. thankfully, no grave robbers or vandals just natural decay.

I love the snowdrops. I remember visiting the old family estate in Scotland (Barnbarroch House, Kirkinner) and there are the old pleasuring grounds with thousands of snowdrops which are followed by thousands of daffodils which are still later followed by thousands of Bluebells. The family mausoleum is at the church of Kirkinner. Thirty six family members are interred there. Other family members from the more distant past are buried under the aisle of the church ruin in Wigtown.

Nice find Sue! The cemetery is loaded with historical stories, and the woman wanting to be buried near the Mausoleum of the family she served for 30 years, she must have felt like she was family? The Thomas Edward Lloyd family crest, or decoration, has a Latin inscription, "By strength and valor", And they combined animals, like unicorns, bulls and lions, which is why the animal look so fantastic! You should invest in a 'wire' camera, or 'colonoscopy' camera, to look through the tiny holes and gaps. They even have built in lights.

Tastefully and respectfully presented, Sue, as usual. Four to six generations have come and gone since many of those monuments were raised and most of the descendants will have dispersed to the four winds. It is salutary to confront the fact that nothing is permanent and that even the most solid mausoleum will, with its contents, eventually succumb to the ravages of time. . . unsung and forgotten. One of the busiest and most frequently used cemeteries where I live started out as an expansive area outside the city limits. It is now swallowed up in the rat race of suburbia, with limited plots left available. The city Fathers some time ago considered placing a 100-year maximum on grave plots, after which any remains would be exhumed, cremated and a memorial plaque placed at the crematorium. The plan has not yet been activated but it is there for use when needed. Quite a good idea, I think and I'm not aware of any serious objection having been raised. Difficulties arose when an inner city cemetery, abandoned for decades, was needed to make way for motorway extensions as the old records of who was buried where had long gone and none of the contractors wished to accidentally uncover forgotten skeletons. It was resolved somehow, though. Col, NZ

I'm sorry for you're losses at such a young age, I started losing my family member's in the 70s. My Dad at age 53 and Grandparents lived to ripe old ages. My dad was Catholic not practicing, my mom Lutheran so 7 of my siblings and myself were brought up in my mom's faith. Neither of my parent's are buried in the same cemetery, Dad served in the military so is buried in the veterans section. Mom in a family plot 10 miles away, where some of us will be buried when our time comes. As a teenager I'd walk up to my small town cemetary/Wisconsin and do a walk around. We are back in Washington State, spouse's home state I've mentioned going to "visit" his people buried there but says their not there. But believe in doing out of respect. I was happy to get down and clean grave stone's time and weather sure take a toll on them. I'm amazing at your skill at reading many of them. Fascinating old church building ( did you say, a business took over the church itself, but then went out of business, and the building is completely locked up? ) and graveyard. The grounds look to be pretty good condition. Do you think it was the weather that caused the damage to the coffins more than anything else? Also, do you think Sarah might have been buried in front of the mausoleum, just under the inscription? Thank you very much Sue and GV, this was a great video, perhaps you may want to think about wearing rubber boots 👢 when out under these conditions.

Thanks Michael, yes the church was owned by a business but had just closed prior to our visit, they don't own the graveyard, shema have been placed in the mausoleum as at least 2 coffins looked in better condition than the rest. Looking at the mausoleum where Sarah Bell requested to be buried in the vicinity of, I'm wondering if she could be in one of the side sections. If you look from the front, it looks like a pretty standard mausoleum, but then it looks to have had extra space built onto each side, like an old barn with sheds attached. Perhaps Sarah rests in one of those.

Hi there! I, too am a fan of Outlander! It combines romance, fantasy, time travel, history, and more. It’s just such a beautiful program filled with beautiful images and historical clothing. I have made some clothes/costumes and jewelry that were inspired by the program. I have been fortunate in being able to study the history of fashion and have some actual historical pieces in my collection. I also have a very large collection of society and club pins that I have been collecting for years. Yes, symbolism is absolutely used on tombstones and mausoleums and that often includes family crests and symbols of clubs, societies and honors. I find this subject endlessly fascinating. Your local library may have books about symbols and their meaning and history! Have a great day! Thanks as always Sue, you guys are truly the best!

Hi😁i got an idea while i was watching this video. Maybe you have already have tried it… I saw that you had problems with reading the text on some of the gravestones. What if you place a paper on top of the text and then scrabble with a pencil sideways over it? I remember i used to do it with coins when we where children😊Great videos you make! I looove history😄👏🏻
