Matt, I don’t recall my mother ever telling me that she was proud of me. I was convinced that she hated me, and that I was a complete disappointment to her. I learned after she died that she believed that she needed to withhold praise to keep me from getting “a swelled head”. I have tried all my life to be the best human being I know how to be. So, having watched a number of your videos, I’m now choosing to believe that she might actually have been proud of me when she was in her body, but felt she wasn’t supposed to say so, and that just possibly she is proud of me now. I mean, I’m doing the best I can, so what’s not to like, right? I choose to believe that the crazy ideas she had fell away when she left her body, and just maybe she actually likes me.

I don’t believe there’s such a thing as “a parent hating their own child”. This “hatred” is just a personification of their own struggles. I’m sorry you’ve felt she “hated”, but she was most likely just hurting and hating the situation she was in. Besides, the upbringing of past generations is sometimes so much more complex, that we can’t even comprehend. I’m sure she loved you and was really proud. But she herself was also a victim of her monsters. Have a good one.

Her own childhood was not happy, with parents who didn’t get along, and I think it left her very hurt and angry. I have come to realize that she was as much a victim as I was. And I also think she really believed she was doing the right thing. You know, I see aligned numbers (ex. 1111) a lot, and feathers on the ground ALL the time. I’m thinking maybe it’s my mom telling me she’s near. So when the old question of whether I was a disappointment to her comes up, I just need to remember that a child’s interpretation is not necessarily accurate, and certainly doesn’t have the whole picture.

I just want to say that I understand why you might think that about your mother. My late husband was an amazing man he died after a brutal an aggressive cancer. his mother died a year before I met him and his father died nine months before my husband died. The one thing my husband never heard was that his parents were probably or that they thought he was handsome in anyway and let me tell you he was gorgeous but he was very insecure because he never got to hear that from his parents. His dad was a pastor and obviously his mother was a pastor‘s wife. The looks and body we are given is considered superficial, just a gift from God. We didn’t do anything to earn it it was just given to us. His father said he can only complement on character traits and that’s what you work for. It’s very sad to know that someone so wonderful was so sick insecure all his life because he never got to hear it from the people he loved the most, until I came along. And then all the women that followed trying to get him away from me, but that’s another story for another day. I promise you, your mother and father both most likely loved you with all their heart but they were restricted in how they learn to share love. I kind of felt that way to a degree with my own mom because she’s so hard-core sometimes. But now she has dementia, which is a little bit of a blessing and a curse. She can be very cruel, especially to my dad or anybody who doesn’t behave like she needs them to behave at that moment, but she’ll look at me and when I come to visit and she just looks amazed to see my face and she runs her hands down my hair and says “my beautiful daughter, you’re here” and she holds me and she tells me all the things I would have loved to hear all my life. But now she has no filters. Sometimes not having a filter can be good.
