how often do you use reference? or do you mostly pull from imagination?

probably 80% reference, 20% imagination. i commonly will start with a reference image but then tweak it quite a bit, it usually won't closely resemble the original.

i started seriously drawing in the middle of college, about 3-4 years ago :) i've been drawing for a lot longer than that but that was when i really started working hard on it and developing my skills, it takes time but will come with practice. age isn't really an important factor at all.
