In this video we take a look at Impact Soundworks new string library Tokyo Strings. This is a first look so I am opening and experiencing the library for the first time as I attempt to write with it, to give you an idea of how intuitive it can be. -- Watch live at / hybridtwo

This library required that you RTFM before using it, 😉 I think it sounds wonderful. Thanks for the First Look video.

I agree, RTFM would be important for this one. The point of my first looks is to show how easy everything feels right out the box, it gives composers and developers a good idea of where things do and don't make sense in the workflow.

@@coalescence3835 I have lots of Spitfire libraries and I've sometimes been put off by Daniel's slightly biased attitude towards this company (NOT because I'm a fanboy or "loyal" to any brand, that's silly - because it takes away from the otherwise fresh and neutral approach Daniel takes). BUT I already know I'll be giving AR2 a pass myself. The available demos and videos made that abundantly clear to me. Really happy he picked TSS.

@@apocryphal_man I think people have turned the DJ vs Spitfire thing into way more than it actually is. He didn’t like HZ strings, and made that clear. But if you watch his recent reviews of Spitfire stuff, they’re not bad. Usually not biased. I don’t think he hates spitfire by any means. People think he does tho

Hi Daniel! What microphone model do you use for your streaming? another question is this: I guess you capture the audio from daw directly to have a better result, but I noticed that while you are recording you have the microphone active, and therefore the recording is also captured by the speakers, this does not create any annoying indentation on the sound?
@DJLA
@DJLA 2 жыл бұрын
RODE NTG3. Its a shotgun mic so it doesn't pick up much of whats behind it. I also have noise reduction on too which cancels a lot of bleed out. You can hear it delay with the click sometimes but once music starts you can't hear it anymore.

Not personally, I am so ingrained with the Keyswitch model that my brain doesnt see it as an obstacle that needs replacing. Maybe if I can see how it would be faster for me one day I would change, but for now I am good I think.

I think he mostly just has empty kontakt instances and midi tracks pre-routed to groups with an instance of Artsacoustic Reverb for each group. Then he just loads whatever he wants into those empty Kontakt instances (sorted by strings, brass, woods, perc, extra). Really simple yet effective setup
@JayMitchellMusic
@JayMitchellMusic 2 жыл бұрын
@@brorberglund6686 Yup that’s literally it, I use the same kind of set up. Saves time but the danger is that sometimes you can wind up using the same libraries for every project. A good way to counter that is to have different string, brass, etc loaded and purged so if you need to have a smaller or more intimate sound you can swap of the libraries. Takes time to set ever up but definitely worth it. Also, always leave a few empty Kontakt instances for “Extra” or more particular sounds while creating. This way, midi tracks are already ready to go and you don’t have to stop the creative process to set up the instrument and midi tracks
@brorberglund6686
@brorberglund6686 2 жыл бұрын
@@JayMitchellMusic yeah, not a bad setup at all. My challenge is that I often end up with too much stuff in my template, as I’m using a multi-system setup with VEpro. Now a days I’m doing sort of a mixed approach where I have all my usual suspects loaded and routed from the getgo, with some extra empty instances pre-routed for each group. That way I start out with all my most used stuff ready to go, but am still able to load in whatever else I might wanna use without too much effort
@aharonstern8706
@aharonstern8706 2 жыл бұрын
@@brorberglund6686 Okay, but I want to know how to load multi instruments to kontakt and how the midi channels are wired so you can control each one individually
@brorberglund6686
@brorberglund6686 2 жыл бұрын
@@aharonstern8706 sure. What daw are you using? You start by creating either an instrument track or a rack instrument with Kontakt. Then just load in whatever the amount of patches you want for that instance of Kontakt. They will automatically be given their own midi-channel, starting at 1 with the first patch you load and ascending by each additional patch. After that, all you have to do is create midi tracks for each channel, setting your Kontakt instrument as the input for all of them

I feel like to produce more realistic stuff, even with a more ‘Japanese’ aesthetic, maybe other libraries could work better… the shorts are quite good, but long articulations doesn’t kill it for me… *I’m probably wrong lol

@@homiee5145 for a single favourite library, it’ll have to be Vista for me (although there’s only legato). Probably the upcoming Pacific! CSS has amazing legatos and articulations, but the tone isn’t that suitable and easy to use for everything.

Hey Daniel, not sure if you saw their own presentation of it but apparently it's a whole new way of doing things. Like their legatos don't have to overlap and more clever things. But you have to give all legatos a negative delay to be in time with the rest bla bla. And my compliments for your always very honest reviews. You're problably the only who speaks out like that. Hated you in the beginning though haha ;) Best

omg Daniel,yet another string library that does very much te same thing as existing ones,nothing special in my opinnion and sound color can always be altered with EQ on other libraries,i stopped buying same sort of libraries,now i buy libraries like sunset strings wich offer something extra,one of the best strings to buy (expensive) are the Chris Hein strings,the legato follows your playing exactly,but becaus of the high price range i only have the solo violin,maybe someday :)
