Good morning everyone! Let me know what you think about PlusSpec in the comments below!

Can you link material costs to price on say a suppliers site or sites so that in real time it will follow market fluctuations?
@Thesketchupessentials5 жыл бұрын
Hmmm...I don't believe so at the moment - that would be a really nice feature, not just for PlusSpec, but really any BIM application

@@bzz3624 Yes you can associate and remember prices for next time, you can also associate recipes. Eg Bricks, there's no point ordering 1000 bricks without sand or cement and you also need labour to install. PlusDesignBuild is the next level for builders, it enables you to associate recipes with everything. You can associate subcontractors with the installation. Schedule a project in 3D and more

Justin - you are legend! As an owner builder in early stage of my two-storey house and estimating the parts using the basics of Sketchup & Excel was a taunting task. Imaging the cost of making mistakes in your specs, eg Roof & Framing, Windows and Doors, etc would add up and will heavily penalise your costs and push back for construction delays. Justin - thanks for saving my day, actual many months of headaches from the Land Down Under.

Wow! This is a mind blowing extension for Architects. Can it do offices, apartments, stadiums etc?
@Thesketchupessentials5 жыл бұрын
Well it kind of depends on the makeup and form of the building. I've definitely seen it used for things like apartments and offices, but if you start getting into more high end organic shapes like stadiums...it probably more depends on the overall shape and complexity than the useage

Hey Justin, Great channel and thanks for the tutorials and tips. I'm just starting out using SketchUp and PlusSpec. I'm modeling my existing home which has a weird front wall gable/dormer. What the easiest way to edit individual studs, in your experience, within a wall created by using SpecPlus?
@PlusSpec4 жыл бұрын
John. If you are looking to add a junction, ladder blocking California corner etc right-click the wall> choose" +wall" choose "+junctions" or you could use the beam tool and choose the lumber size required. John there are tutorials at the top of each tool in the orange Question mark. Or you can create a custom item with Sketchup, make it a group, and then Shift select the wall and custom item, then right-click and choose "Add to wall". This will enable you to add anything to a wall without it being removed if you change the wall properties. If you want the customer item to be quantified you should use the " BIM" tool and the item will be quantified. kzbin.info/www/bejne/mJSliZ95qdd3adE

Are there certificate programs for sketchup/PlusSpec? There are plenty of certificates and degrees for Revit and AutoCAD but the Revit software alone is very costly and aimed towards a commercial level BIM and I am trying to focus on residential drafting and BIM. Thank you for your time.

@2200chuck5 жыл бұрын
Looks good, pricey but good. But I do have a question. How would you create drawings with the scenes it makes for users that do not have Layout?
@Thesketchupessentials5 жыл бұрын
You wouldn't - that's kind of the point of Layout. You could print some sketches from SketchUp if you really wanted to. That said, usually (not always), drawings are for commercial use, which falls outside of the free licensing of the free make version, so you should have SketchUp pro for this anyway, which would have Layout.

Agree - I noted as much in the end of the video - this is definitely a tool targeted at working professionals rather than hobbyists. They do offer a ton of resources and support, as well as adding different materials, models, etc, but that's kind of what I like about SketchUp and extensions in general - they vary from free to professional level depending on your needs 👍
@artworksenvisioneering21675 жыл бұрын
Dirt cheap compared to AutoDesk, Revit, not to mention thr learning curve. But then that isn't apples to apples BIM and all. What it boils down to for many modellers is what's your time worth. Automating and upping the realism, that's a win for pros.
@MrCADCHANNEL5 жыл бұрын
It does seem to offer lots for the Architectural user, but extensions costing more or less than the main software it runs on has never sat well with me & for that price one just rents it. PERPETUAL LICENSE software I'll always have time for rather than SUBSCRIPTION (ransomware) :-( Proper Architectural software like BRICSYS or ARCHLINE-XP may be better for the serious user, NO RENTING either :-). An LT or free version for PLUS-SPEC would be good to see.
