Depending on the job you are working on, my work on architecture and interior design, for me sketchup is the best, easy to learn, easy to use, very friendly, almost all models can be made with Sketchup and Vray make Sketchup be perfect for the final result, you should try

Yes, 3ds max can open Sketchup files and render from there, but you have to adjust the material settings

First you must make component to your shape model then copy, if you change one the other will follow and move straight axis pressing arrow key UP or Right on keyboard then move with mouse
