My favorite feature of SU Pro. Please schedule an advanced "build along" session of dynamic components at Base Camp 2020. Some detailed kitchen cabinets or woodworking project would be great. The Skill Builder format is a keeper!

Aaron you are AWESOME. I can’t say how great it feels putting a suggestion out there and having it responded to with a series like this. Great introduction, very much looking forward to diving in deeper!! I’ve been stuck trying to create an “animated, scale-able, nested dynamic component” for weeks and this content will hopefully unblock this road block! Thanks to you and your team for focusing on this aspect of the software. I’m definitely down a rabbit hole here but it looks like you guys are here to help! 💪🇺🇸

When dynamic components first came out, I thought they would change Sketchup FOREVER, but they didn't. The problem is that more than often changing a parameter creates a new unique component and that just defeats the purpose of a dynamic component in the first place ;( I still use them, but mostly just because they're fun. If Sketchup could make them like Autocad's dynamic blocks, then I would use them a lot more in my workflow. BUT STILL ... coincidentally, just 2 days ago, I made a video about a dynamic WINDOW component, so if you want to check it out, go see my latest video. I also left a download link for the component in the description.

Yes, my issue exactly. Really bloats the drawing. I wish they would update DC's and correct this flaw.

Hi Aaron, each time the nice jingle sounds there is a hidden gem that comes up (for me). I didn't expect dynamic components to be so smart. Quite curious about what part 2 and the following will reveal. Hope you don't get tired teaching us! Thank you! Wolfgang

I've never used dynamic components up until now as this is my first version of SU Pro. Since I'm used to parametric modelling in other 3D CAD, I'll be interested to see how far dynamic components can be taken.
@jeffharmed16164 жыл бұрын
Thanks. Dynamic components feature (Parametized drawing) in Fusion 360 as their main selling point because they are so useful, so I’m glad you started this tutorial series. There is a free DC plugin that gives users the ability of creating binary models such as doors that are either open or closed. For me the ultimate DC model would be a marionette which can be made to take any stance - running, walking, jumping, pointing etc - by just touching trigger points on its surface.
@jeffharmed16164 жыл бұрын
DCs in combination with components are what sets SketchUp apart from Fusion 360 and Blender. DCs with components normally add around 10% extra file size To each model, whereas in Fusion 360 and Blender the file size can be much higher with their “parametized” models
@mattvis1414 жыл бұрын
I’m definitely interested in seeing something like that modeled, not sure how the components and sub components would reference space to be able to move properly. I’ve been attempting something far less complex than what you’re talking about and have been stuck for awhile. We’ll see how deep Aaron is willing to dive on this! I’m in for all of it! 💪🇺🇸
@jeffk66864 жыл бұрын
@@jeffharmed1616 This can happen in Sketchup as well. If your DC's are very complex (e.g., nested DCs) they will copy as new components, not instances, and thus bloat the file size substantially. I've run into this many times.

I have never used them and the concept is cool. You should try and incorporate this into the live modeling sessions so we can see how they work in the modeling flow. Im not sure where i would use this feature.. i dont know enough yet to make that judgment call:)

LT72884 I had thought about that but, for me, DCs involve a lot of trial and error and often hand written notes and experimentation. Maybe just a little one here or there... we will see!

Steve Hubner I had the opposite issue, attributes no options, if you can disable dynamic components, close SketchUp, reopen it, enable them again, that did the trick for me. On a 2011 iMac running High Sierra and SU2019. Best of luck

This is the second video for introduction to dynamic components by two different people and both choose to apply colour as material. I would have thought that blue is colour for example and wood is material. Is there not a heading called colour and a separate one called material because as a cabinet maker material is never colour. That’s just misleading. Maybe I need to watch more in this series.
