Paula Moltzan, You got far into the backseat on the steep into the finish. You need to learn to move your upper body forward a bit instead of backward as you get more scared by the more steep terrain. Much of your skiing before then was fairly good. You need more practice with technique.

You want your center of gravity to be perpendicular to the slope of the hill. Then you will be balanced. You will not be inclined to be leaning forward or backward. You can carve good turns because you can pressure your front edges easily to steer. you were BRAKING a lot at the end because you were in the back seat a lot at the end. You cannot pressure the top of your boot forward to pressure your front edges if you have your butt down near the snow (if the line from your knee to your butt is below the line parallel to the snow). If you are leaning backward, it is hard to pressure the top of the boot forward (almost impossible). Thus all you can really do to turn at that point is to skid turn by pushing your butt farther down toward the snow (BRAKING). BRAKING will slow you down. You don't want that if you want to win.

AJ Hurt, Near the top you turned your weight (and your body) sideways. This almost caused you to completely lose your edge grip. You need to keep your upper body facing down the hill all of the time. If you effectively lean into the hill (turn sideways with your body), then your edges provide you with little or no grip on a steep slope. That means you will slide down the hill. It means your edges will end up being at a near 0 degree angle to the hill (your ski sides will be virtually in line with the hill). You can effectively wipe out this way. At the very least you will lose a lot of control. You also are separating your skis north and south too much (forward and back longitudinally too much). This is like a Telemark cross country turn. It causes BRAKING automatically. This slows you down. Usually you do not want that. It also looks like you let your skis sometimes approach each other too near laterally. This means you will not get as good balance as you could. Usually you are able to get and maintain higher speeds when you are in balance. The wider stance also helps you absorb unexpected bumps, etc. You probably want a slight bit more lateral separation at least in some cases. You are also, especially on the steeps moving you butt up and down (thus too near the snow). This is causing you to skid more than you should. It means you overall have less control than you want. It costs you speed. Overall I would say that you are tending to get in the back seat on the steeps. Thus you get less control and less speed. It looks to me like you need to have your upper body a bit farther forward on the steeps. It is natural to be scared of the steeps (and thus think you should be moving your upper body backward). Thus one tends to move ones center of gravity backward (butt down toward the snow more). However, you actually want to be doing the opposite (moving your upper body forward a bit (just not too far forward)). You want to get good balance with your center of gravity perpendicular to the slope. It may take you some practice with video to be able to achieve this consistently. Still it is probably a good goal. Best wishes on your next races AJ.

She knows all this stuff, man. Even World Cup racers make mistakes.
