This was my first bit of 'steep' skiing since i tore my ACL last April, and it was definitely a good line to get back into the swing of things. At only around 40deg, the skiing was never particularly difficult, but the consequences of a fall could well be fatal, so nothing unusual for Chamonix! Starting from Helbronner, a relatively short approach with some easy skinning leads to a short but spectacular section of PD alpine climbing on the first part of the SW ridge of the Aig. d'Entreves. Easy by alpine standards, but not for the faint hearted, especially with the cross wind catching in your skis like a sail! from there the descent starts initially down the steep south facing nose of the Aiguille, before opening out onto the pleasant SE face. Being South facing, the snow was well and truly sunbaked, but there was still some pleasant powdery turns to be found!
