SKI CARVING AT HEAVENLY | 2017

February vacation at Heavenly Ski Resort in 2017. This video was mainly recorded so I could analyse my own skiing (I am a ski instructor), so hopefully it is at least somewhat enjoyable to watch.
If any PSIA Cert. guys want to give some input into things I can work on go right ahead. It would be much appreciated.

Widen stance to allow you to tip the skis onto edge using movement only coming from the lower body, dont worry about anything else until you can do this

Harry McFadden I do agree. My relatively narrow stance in this video stems from my days as a “steezy park rat” only a season prior to the 16/17 season. I have gladly converted to a real skier and am not going back any time soon XD. So far this season one of the main things I’ve been working on is a consistent, slightly wider stance and keeping my shins tipping in a parallel fashion (in addition to a slew of other things). As you can see in this video I’m skiing with my knees slightly closer to each other than my feet. I’ll be coming out with another video in the next couple weeks, showing my improvement.

If i was you i would focus on less movement with the arms when you pole plant, and also watch out for too much motion in the hips as you do the up-down movement between the turns. Things you do very well is rhythm, it looks very fluent. Also upper body is still throughout most of the video, so kudos out to you for that. If i was you i would focus on practicing Alpine Basic Position (Alpines Fahrverhalten) to fix your hips and to transition the weight more from your mountain ski to valley ski (why you fell in the video most likely).

Aleksander Andersen..excellent skiing. I do agree on the pole plant. Arms are reaching foreword undoing some of the counter rotation/separation.

Aleksander Andersen I do agree, my arms need to quiet down. I’ve been working on that this season, so you can tell me if I’ve improved in my next video. ;)
