Does the gun come pre loaded with clear? Just picked one up from SVST and was surprised to see clear dripping from the end while it was heating up.

They test each unit at the factory for correct operation and temperature. They use a clear stick for that test. So not "pre-loaded", but still some left from the testing.

looks very messy for sorting out a minor gouge! Given a deep base gouge would, likely, need a metal grip epoxy layer first...why not save the £150 cost of the RP360 and spend it on a heli-ski trip and use a P tex candle and cig lighter - IF you only have your own skis to sort :)

Wow, I've just seen they actually cost £200! You can buy a 'hot' glue gun ( not to be confused with standard gun) for around £25. I've had a quick search on a well-known global retailer's website and it appears many will take a standard 11mm P Tex stick. P Tex melts at circa 150c and base material around 170c so it's VERY important you buy a gun with adjustable temp control...and check it's accurate - before using it!

Ptex candles have wax in them to help them flow, which makes the repair a lot less solid than proper Ptex. Fine for small repairs, but it’ll pull out from larger ones. I started with candles, then the cheaper hot glue style gun, and then this RP360. The latter is so much better. Whether it’s worth the extra expense depends on how likely you are to gouge your bases. I go off piste where’s there’s often roots & stones below the surface, so for me it’s a must.
