Skid Row (Downtown) - Original Broadway Cast - Little Shop - 09/21/2003 Preview Performance

Here is "Skid Row (Downtown)" from the September 23, 2003 preview performance of the original Broadway production of "Little Shop of Horrors" at the Virginia Theatre in New York.
After the failed Florida try-out earlier in the year, the video of which is posted here ( • Video ), the show was totally scrapped and reproduced from the ground up, with a new director (Jerry Zaks), new choreography, new set-design, and a new cast. Virtually the only element to survive the move to Broadway was the casting of Hunter Foster (fresh off of the musical URINETOWN) in the role of Seymour Krelborn.
The cast also features Trisha Jeffrey as Crystal, Carla J. Hargrove as Ronnette, DeQuina Moore as Chiffon, Kerry Butler as Audrey, and Rob Bartlet as Mushnik, as well as Douglas Sills, Michael-Leon Wooley, Martin P. Robinson, Anthony Asbury, Bill Remington, and Matt Vogel, all as Skid Row occupants. (With the exceptions of Sills, who also plays Orin Scrivello "and everyone else," and Wooley, who only voices The Plant, they all also serve as puppeteers for Audrey II.)

I saw a performance of this song at a student theatre awards recently, and it was phenomenal. The slowed down part after Seymour's solo, the other performers are brawling and walking and fighting in slow motion as Seymour walks around them and its just so eerie. audrey and the women I think were hiding/getting abused or leading men off stage if I remember correctly. I'd love to see a full live performance of this show.

This cast is the 2003 revival cast. The designation Original Broadway Cast refers to the cast that originated the show on Broadway or nearby. The Original Broadway Cast for Little Shop of Horrors was in the off-off-Broadway in 1982 which moved to the Orpheum Theatre off-Broadway, where it had a five-year run.

Revivals on Broadway of shows, which do well enough the second (third,fourth.) time and get an album, are usually called “Broadway cast album” and even “original” if the staging was different than before. Since this was a mix of the movie and off broadway show. However, off-broadway cast albums are never billed as “original Broadway cast.” Near broadway is not “Broadway,” which has a legal definition.

This was incredible. The only thing I wish is that the director would've leaned more on making this an ensemble song and had fuller cast constantly on stage and the lighting had eased up on the spotlights a bit more.

This is THE ensemble # that makes or breaks a production of LSOH. ❤️🌟 Hunter Foster was also my FAVORITE Broadway Seymour, after Rick Moranis in the film. Jeremy Jordan is ok, but he's too legit hot to be believable in the role -- same with Jake Gyllenhaal.
