Rachel Bolan Interview on May 24, 2011. The question asked was "Is Quicksand Jesus about religious tension or bouts with faith?" Bolan answered: You pretty much hit the nail on the head. I grew up in a Catholic family and so did Snake. You know that good old fashioned Catholic guilt. It’s just about keeping your beliefs during good times and bad times. It’s so easy to not be spiritual when things are going really good and then when they go bad you start relying on whatever god you pray to to get you out of it. It’s kind of saying that whatever it is you believe in, you should probably put in 100% all the time. We started writing it and war broke out in the middle east. The lyrics just started pouring out but we did not have a title for it. Snake and I used to do a lot of dirt bike riding and we knew we wanted “Jesus” in the title but we could never really settle on anything. There was a busted Jesus in Snakes mom’s flower garden. The garden was there right before we took off to go riding on the trail and every time it rained the Jesus sank. We called it “Quicksand Jesus” and what we would do is touch it for luck and then we would take off. If someone would wreck we’d say, “You forgot to touch Quicksand Jesus didn’t you?” One day, we just looked at each other and said, “That’s it! That’s the song title!” That song was a labor of love. Snake and I never had such a tug of war on certain parts and elements of songs as much as we did with that one. That one took us a long time to write. It’s cool that’s your favorite song because that’s my favorite Skid Row song that we ever did. I’m proud of it and I’m so glad we still do that one.

You can most definitely tell it comes from Catholic theology. They pose the question, are we saved by the words of bastard saints, do we live in fear or faith. I'm glad you shared this. This is definitely one of my favorite SR song's. Sadly many people fall away because of Man- made Religion. They throw the baby out with the bathwater. i worked at The Record Plant LA when they recorded Beside Ourselves. Sometime late in '91. The first thing Sebastian said when he walked in the door was, "Where's the buds"? Snake was the only artist to ever give me a tip for getting his food. We did Use your Illusion that same year it was vas a frightening, scary blast. Always saw Slash. He came back to do Blackand White....Those were crazy times. I think everyone here misses them. Thought it would last forever...

THIS IS THE BEST BALLAD OF ALL TIME IN MY OPINION BACHS VOCALS ARE INSANE
@symbasymba160 Жыл бұрын
Yes!! And his looks are insane!! I wish I had grown up when this band was together! I would have loved to see a live concert by them! I know they have a new guy but he’s not Sebastian Bach! His looks aren’t half as good and he doesn’t sound or put the energy into it like SB!! 💕

I remember in high school everyone had the first record, even if you weren't into hard rock metal you still had it. Then when the second record came out that's all you saw and heard on radio and MTV. The Sebastian Bach era will always be stand the test of time.

Sebastian Bach vocal is the best, the greatest, the most ultimate, the most powerful & the most over qualified voice I have ever heard in the whole Rock N Roll & Heavy Metal History

The last "I'm so far away..." is one of the highest screams in hard rock/metal, on pair with the Halfords or the Cornell's of this life! This song is amongst the best of what was produced in the early nineties!! And it's only their second album... It hit me then, and it still hits me now, some 30 years later!!! This band should have reached far higher!!! A big thank you, Seb, Bolan and the team!!

Allow me for a moment to put this in prospective: I am a person of color who performs soulful and classic R&B material for over 30 years. Sebastian Bach is Theee man and he is That Man in his music genre. Unbeatable. Skid Row and Sebastian Bach fan from the Very beginning.
@mikew72233 жыл бұрын
How can it be that this is already 30 years old? Damn I’m old... but this tune still rocks as hard as it did the first time I heard it. This album is a masterpiece.
