Kari was always on shadows of Harri Kirvesniemi, Aki Karvonen and Juha Mieto. In Seefeld 1985 he had a piece of luck with him. Due hotel Capacity problems still concerning Seefeld even today. Austrians decided few years before the game to ask for expectional permission to hold World championships on January instead of late February. Because in normal schedule there wouldn't be enough accodimantion in Seefeld or Innsbruck area. FIS Accepted the controversial decision and so the games were hold on "Härkönen on his best form time in mid January 1985" He was always on best form in January or early season. "Juniori" never kept good condition whole season. The slump began on early February. But those two races in Seefeld he was on his best form and really deseerved this win. He was thought to be a promising talent and it was waited when he will strike on medal races. On 30k's he was near of bronze but fell on a slope half a kilometre from Finnish line. And it gave a reason "I started today to Catrch a really big fish, it did gave me burning want to show people I am a great racer, not just one race miracle man. And more guts to show Finnish media, coaches and everybody after the fell on 30 kilometre race, that it was not my best race better will come on 15 kilometers. And I think everybody are happy now especially My parents and brothers back home in Ristijärvi, Finland who have sat for many races beside the TV and waited for my success I am happy for them also tonight I won the championship also for them not just for myself."

Can anyone find any uphill skate footage from this era? (I recall it being miserable and slow to marathon uphill and then also to V2A/Open Field uphill. But until V1 they were all we had!)

Очень тяжело было заходить в подъем полуконьковым ходом, чрезвычайно энергозатратно(в отличие от полноценного конькового). Да и вообще, всю дистанцию идти им. Что мешало уже тогда хотя бы в подъемы применять полноценный коьковый ход? Тем более, что еще в 70-е годы был пример Сиитонена. Но смотрится, надо сказать, довольно эстетично.
