I always tell my probies that people can feel your intention in your voice and your body language, even if they don't speak English. Treat people with respect regardless of how disrespectful they treat you and everyone around will see that and have respect for you. In time you win people's hearts and minds and they will help you if things are getting tough. Then you can really start to influence and motivate people. Firm but fair was the best leadership principle I was ever taught. Firm and fair with compassion and good intentions is my spin on it.
