Great review, Marco, but you didn’t even mention the advanced rules-using the pursuit maps to go after bombers that have fallen out of formation. I’m actually about to start my first game, but from some of the other reviews I’ve read, the advanced rules make an already great game even better. I’m curious what you think about the advanced rules and if you feel they are integral to the overall game experience.

Happy to hear it is not derivative. The 'leader' games from DVG have never hooked for me, despite numerous tries and a personal preference for air warfare games. I've got a sealed copy of this on my shelf. It feels like a brick.

Great video as always. I am a solo gamer for 95% but I don’t think I will buy the game. The reason is that - as always - the AI is 100% based on die rolls. After 40 years of gaming this is very much a done deal for me. I could see its story telling mode in B17 back in the early 80’s but an AI or story PURELY based on die rolls again and again and again is boring. After the EXCELLENT Butterfield solo designs like Ambush or DDay at Omaha Beach or the ground breaking solo expansion for Conflict of Heroes this kind of solo game purely based on die rolls to decide what the AI will do ..... is boring. Not even talking about the bots seen in Labyrinth or COINS or the brand new Hitler’s Reich. All these solo wargames are simply better in using intelligent AIs. DVG’S leader series are soooooo boring in this way I no longer buy this kind of potatoes. Will they do that will they do this and then just roll a die ... shrug. For those interested in a decent AI bot system in a RARE strategic game: try Hitler’s Reich. Far superior in taking a bot to a strategic level in an European Theater op Operations, than just shooting planes who come randomly to you.

This is the most thorough presentation of this game yet done in any video that I've seen! Great job. Though the constant comparison to B-17 ("Queen of the Skies" is the rest of the title) really needs to be updated so to be comparing it to "Target for Today", which is the re-implementation of "B-17", and as such is a deeper and more sophisticated version of "B-17".

That's funny... I was just commenting to myself about how refreshing it is that they decided to use blocks instead of the standard, blasé counters! I wish more games used blocks instead of counters to distinguish any primary units. Also I think it's because blocks are used to determine the altitude of the unit, so it would simply look weird to have a cardboard counter placed upon a block. But then again, maybe not. Just supposing out loud.

The blocks can be stacked to denote altitude.

If I remember correctly, I believe he has said that he doesn't bother reviewing games he doesn't like. Having said that, I think the strongest negative thing I have ever heard him say about a game was that it wasn't really very good. Haha. He is much too much of a gentleman to trash a game. Refreshing!

I think reviewing the meh and even bad ones would enhance his credibility. It would make the good ones seem sweeter by comparison!

Nah, better to cultivate good will among devs. Nobody wants to send a copy to a reviewer who trashes games. And it's just kind of a dick thing to do anyway.

in the last two weeks I gave negative reviews of Tesseract and Ophiucus. Yesterday I released a video of Jetpack Joyride saying the game is seriously marred by its production. If I disliked most games I play I'd be in the wrong hobby. I like games, I try to play mainly the games I think I'll like, so it is quite natural most of my reviews are positive. But if you watch regularly you'll find the negative ones too.
