Great channel. Very compelling skies for an intermediate skier like myself. Would you recommend Volkl Deacon 72 over Nordica SPITFIRE DC 74 PRO for the first skies in the quiver (looking for versatile /forgiving but capable groomer skies)?
@SkiEssentials8 ай бұрын
They're both a bit stiff and heavy for intermediate skiers getting their first pair. If you're looking for a versatile groomer, I'd go a bit lighter and more accessible. Check out the Head Shape V8 or the Rossignol Forza 50. You may find better success with these models versus the ones you've been looking at.

Compared to the master's version of this ski, how much of a difference in stiffness would there be? I weigh about 170lb at 5'10 and am a CSIA level 2 instructor working on my level 3, looking for my next training ski. Would i find the the normal 72 not strong enough or would the masters end up being a bit stiff for the bumbs?
@zakingle14207 ай бұрын
Yeah, I’m in the exact situation and would love an answer to your question 😂
@SkiEssentials7 ай бұрын
The Master with the full ash core is a pretty darn dense ski. I think there's more upside to the normal Deacon 72--it's pretty strong itself, while allowing for greater mobility in bumps and other tight zones. There's a reason the ash core is reserved for the race-specific skis, and unless you're looking for that specific reason (and that may certainly include a level 3 exam), I think it's generally overkill.

Thanks for the awesome content! I'm seeking advice on a frontside ski to pair with my Elan Ripstick 88. I weigh 65kg, stand at 174cm, and consider myself a proficient mid-level skier (Level 2 instructor). However, I do find afternoon bumpy terrains challenging, especially when I'm fatigued. I ski mostly on-piste in Europe, where deep powder is uncommon. I'm considering the Deacon 72, Elan Amphibio 16ti, or Rossignol Hero Elite MT. I enjoy fun races and the ski should be fun at these, but also need a ski that's forgiving during afternoon bump runs. Thoughts?"
@SkiEssentials Жыл бұрын
I'd say that MT has a lot to offer. It's precise and stiff, but is lighter than the others, so that's going to make it better for non-race situations. We see a lot of skiers here at Stowe on those skis and they make it look great when it comes to bumps and off-trail situations.

How would you compare it to Volkl Racetiger RC in term of radii, stiffness and skill level? Thanks in advance!
@SkiEssentials7 ай бұрын
The RC is a bit more recreational of a ski with less metal and stiffness than the Deacon 72. The RC has a tighter arc and is easier to turn and carve, but lacks the top end speed and stability of the burlier Deacon 72.
@evanxie37037 ай бұрын
Thank you so much for the clear and thorough reply. It is quite hilarious that a racetiger is more "recreational" than the recreational Deacon~ I guess the same analysis can be applied to SC but just with short radius? Did you notice RC and SC have almost identical sidecut at 158 and 172cm? Did they just put different cosmetic on the same ski? @@SkiEssentials

I just demoed the Volkl SC Carbon which definitely liked to be carved. I liked them a lot but I am looking for something a bit more speedy and stable which also likes medium turns and going schuss. Could the Deacon 72 be it?
@SkiEssentials8 ай бұрын
Yup! More of a race-like construction in this ski that performs well on firm snow and ice. You can definitely get more stability at speed with the Deacon 72.
@NicoBuratti9 ай бұрын
Could you suggest them for having fun on piste from early morning groomed piste to completely destroyed afternoon piste? Or would it be better to look at something else?
@SkiEssentials9 ай бұрын
It's powerful, so it'll move over degraded snow with relative ease. You could look a bit wider to something like the Deacon 84 or the 76?

Is this the same as the Volkl Deacon 72 Black or are their differences between the two?
@SkiEssentials8 ай бұрын
I can't find a difference other than the Black looks like a non North American graphic.

Is this the same as the Volkl Deacon X(Europe) which is also 72 under foot ?
@SkiEssentials8 ай бұрын
No, the Deacon X is more entry level with a composite core. The shape is similar, but the build of the 72 is considerably stronger.

is the Deacon X any good? @@SkiEssentials
