@@riseandalpine Castle can be tricky, I went yesterday because forecast said 6kph wind gusting to ~20, I think they left a zero off. It does provide for some great blow in tho. Very nice terrain overall, you would like it.
@rickroll90868 ай бұрын
This is borderline ludicrous on how busy Blackcomb has become. Lived there in the mid 80’s, and 7th Heaven was a TBar. A traverse and short hike over to the backside, and you could ski this without seeing a soul. Now there’s a lineup. Yikes. Of course, hardly anyone needed go that far as you could ski Crystal Ridge, Spanky’s, DOA for weeks with hardly any tracks. There were days when there were only 400 people at the entire mountain, and you could always find fresh tracks. Keep on looking for the fresh stuff!

@@riseandalpine Just wait, it is going to get much more crowded. I certainly hope not , however I have skied Whistler/Blackomb since the early 70's and the growth is staggering. Love your vids and your vib. Stay strong M.
@hobmarg8 ай бұрын
it's painful how busy Blackcomb backcountry is, but to be fair I think this was a sunny weekend? So it's kind of understandable. Surprised there aren't more accidents with groups skiing on top of each other. There was one on Decker in 2022 I believe. Coastal snowpack saves newbies from stupid decisions on the daily.

Great footage. Oh my goodness though - that touring line at the t-bar. Is it normally this busy? Seeing what seems like 1/10 of the resort skiers dump into the backcountry really puts a damper on the isolation aspect of bc touring and riding. Maybe that's just to be expected for any WB side country touring?
@riseandalpine8 ай бұрын
Once you get into the BK it is pretty spread out as there are targets everywhere. The morning rush has always been this busy, so if you want a more traditional touring experience, I'd totally recommend steering far clear of the sea to sky

Snow is still too low for them to open it up. Pretty rocky up top so no good ski into the glacier. Would make for a serious gong show if they opened it.

There seem to be a lot of athletic, skilled, risk-friendly skiers at Whistler. When skiing back country do you always arrive at a road or a cat track to get back to the resort? I'm curious to see which skis you now purchase.

Typically you plan a route to get back to the lifts but no everything ends at a cat track! It's nice to do a loop and end on the resort though
