Really nice place! But this video made me think about one thing: the way North Korea can really appear in front of us. I'm gonna explain what I mean. But first, I wanna ask you a question: do you know that north korean youtube channel called Echo of Truth? It was a channel where there was this girl, Un A, showing us what was going on in Pyongyang, etc... Unfortunately it has been deleted by KZbin. The main official reason was the fact that KZbin doesn't want to take responsibilities in sharing a channel making propaganda of what is officially defined as a "rogue state". Now, I don't wanna discuss too much about KZbin's decision, because there can be both reasons to not ban that channel and to ban it. Instead, I wanna focus on the content that channel used to promote: we all noticed that the main intention was sponsoring a "different" image of North Korea, more modern, more """""normal""""": in a first moment there were both old-style videos and new ones on that channel. The first ones were the usual... boring... grey stuff: contents about propaganda that looked like come straight out of 50s/60s Cold War soviet-style videos. The new videos, on the flip side, used to appear way more accomodating and captivating, at least at a first glance: good editing, warm and colored photography, a nice and western "VLOGgy" background music. That's why the latters got much more attentions of course and probably that's why, after a while, the owner of the channel decided to delete the first ones: it was clear they didn't fit anymore for the current times. BUT there was something many people complain even about the new videos: beyond this "more comfortable" way to indroduce themselves, these videos used to contain many dialogues sounding very unnatural sometimes, especially during the interviews with casual people: they were overwhelmingly shallow, trivial, forced, like they were a kind of commercial or just like when you start learning a new language and everything begins with basic phrases like "Hi, how are you?"- "I'm fine, thanks! I went to the restaurant and really enjoyed the pizza!", kind of... they were clearly scripted. Plus, there used to be a lot of censorships too, with some random pixelled and blurred parts, as if they were trying to hide something from us. So, the outcome is exactly what is defined as "backfire effect": the public, instead of being convinced that NK is more than what we usally hear of it, it's even more convinced that there's something wrong with that country. Of course, this is very sad, because it's like shooting yourself in the foot. I wrote all these things for a purpose: when you come back there, maybe you can suggest them to produce a content that looks more like yours! Your videos are great: natural dialogues, laughs, jokes: there's a very relaxed atmosphere, you guys look really chilled out. Maybe they can maintain the same nice photography or the background music, but at the same time, being more "spontaenous". That's what they need to re-define their image. Of course this is just my personal opinion. If they can't produce videos like that for some reasons I ignore, I don't mind, but it was just to help them. Thank you as alwyas for reading my contents!
@ZoeDiscovers3 жыл бұрын
Actually I was thinking to write my master's thesis on the Echo of Truth channel and modern DPRK propaganda but since the channel has disappeared I'm doing something else instead! It was indeed a very bizarre channel and as you say, they may have shot themselves in the foot a bit! Thanks for the nice feedback though (:
@fabrinotturno68313 жыл бұрын
@@ZoeDiscovers Yeah, it would have been a good idea. Let's see what's gonna happen with these channels in the future. I appreciate their effort to change their reputation, but, if there's something weird, you cannot pretend it doesn't exist. Anyway, whatever contents you're gonna do, I'll probably appreciate it the same!
