I just saw this. Grew up skiing SV. The snow can be A1. Limelight on a groomer day is 🔥. Obviously groomers rock though. There is some secret runs there that are amazing on powder days. Scorpion is one you won’t hear people talk about.

Sun Valley is not really an off-piste ski area. Unlike UT, it gets warm when it storms...and then cools down after. This makes for great groomed skiing, but not so much for off-piste. If you want to ski those areas, plan your trip for December to Jan...the coldest months.

Thanks for sharing Lucas, sorry the snow conditions sucked. Sun Valley has never been known for deep pow, great place to ski groomers though. You got to try Brundage sometime, great snow and tree skiing!

Thanks for showing us the good and the bad of skiing and vanlife. It stinks that it seemed like one thing after the next was happening to you this weekend. Nevertheless, you always seem to be able to appreciate the beautiful scenery and the little things and I love that. I really loved the shots from the ski lift this time. I looked like the some of the lifts went on forever and gave you some pretty awesome views. Haha, 63 people?!? Sometimes I wonder how people decide to live in places with 63 people. Excited to see what kind of adventure you get up to this weekend!

amanda! thank you!! just try to remind myself its all apart of the process and thats the unknown of exploring up in the mountains. weather can change so quickly! sun valley was definitely one of the more picturesque resorts ive been to! like its own little corner of heaven! and yup 63 people haha! there was a gas station, a general store and a post office basically! it would be kind of cool for a little while to live in a place like that but i think it would get old pretty quick! thanks for watching amanda! see you next time!

good question! i keep an extra gopro, gloves, extra pair of lenses, extra memory cards, extra batteries, my big camera + a lense and snacks of course! also my bendy tripod so i can shoot those timelapses on the mountain! so mostly camera gear haha

Lucas on facebook there is a group called Ikon and Epic Pass Van and RV Dwellers. It's a great resource for overnight camping. The people that usually respond are locals to the area or have just been there. Give it a try. BTW I just found your channel and will be building my own van to do the exact same thing. Delivery some time this summer so hopefully I will have it somewhat ready for the 21-22 winter season. Thanks for recording all your build videos, they are very helpful.

Had the same snow conditions at Sun Valley last season in January. Was discusing it with a Jackson local this year. Her response, "It's called Sun Valley, not Snow Valley."

Wow, you actually skied Sunrise. Wish I had, there was more snow when I went, I think Sun Valley melted a little. I also feel like getting deep powder at Sun Valley is quite rare, based on the fact they have almost 600 snowmaking guns. I do eventually want to come back, during a better snow year.

Yes! I don’t think I made it to the actual sunrise bowl but was definitely over on that ridge! It has been super warm that I think some of it definitely melted and they didn’t have a ton of base in the first place! And yes I would like to come back as well! Maybe a bit earlier in the season!

Do you have any apps like iOverlander to help find a place to camp? was definitely super bare. some people i rode the chair with were saying they werent having a good snow year at all and i could see that. super thin base for sure. i dont think they are known for lots of snow and steep lines though anyways. cool place though! just not one of my favorites i guess!
