Have you skied Silverton Mountain Ski Area? Probably the best place in the US for the type of skiing you do (seeking big mountain terrain but dont tour). Because they have a much more robust avalanche mitigation program (vs the cat operation), you get to ski full-on terrain and I would argue with the snow conditions you had, that probably beats what you skied at the cat operation. They have a 1970s chair and a heli and you can do individual heli drops. Late season (mid-Mar - mid-Apr) is unguided and the pass for that month of skiing (5 days a week) costs half of the 1-day of cat skiing. Something to consider if you like the San Juans.

Silverton Powdercats was the worst run operation I’ve ever experienced. On top of that they were extremely unprofessional. I tell anyone that asks to stay away. Glad you had a better experience

Thanks Liam! And yea the gopro definitely gets pretty heavy and can get you off balance while skiing. It might be challenging at first, but just do it a little at a time and keep practicing with it!

Grew up in Durango. Used to help "guide" with the old owners of SPC, mainly set the lines and sweep the rear for a free day of skiing. Great terrain and always amazing weather, one of the hidden gems of sw Colorado. Haven't skied that terrain in years since the old owners sold the company but sure have some great memories. Glad you got to experience a little slice of Colorado Heaven, video was fun to watch

I enjoy the travel logistic part of your presentation as much as the skiing, and the breakfasts. Having just done the Colorado to Utah trip myself I feel for you, but doing it AFTER a full day of skiing is truly nasty. Top tip: Price, UT has crazy good gas prices, not sure about diesel. I found it worth the stop, even if I didn’t need gas.
