I did this in 95 and it's an amazing experience for the scenery and the semi off piste experience. Also Le Grand Montets ski area in the Chamonix valley offers a rugged ski experience.

I heard there was a fire, it burnt down. It was repaired but the lifts are still not open to public

1:22 I was there just looking a few years ago and there was a huge queue of people shuffling down the track. One man hopped over the rope or fence to the left and skiied down to the start area at the bottom.

Whoa! That's crazy! Not overly surprised since the line gets notoriously long but, that's nuts!

Keep watch on your equipment I had my back pack here in the tunnel stolen. Chamonix is known for this sad.

It is terrible to see how less snow there is any more.

Nice, I did it in 2018 - week 4. The entry was very different and the fence were only installed at the first part 😅

Super cool video about this iconic descent! I followed a similar route to yours, just adding a little spice of skimountaineering in between, but just the skiing of this is so worth it! Thanks for sharing!

Philipp Klein Herrero awesome I’m glad you enjoyed it! It was a day I’ll remember forever, a truly iconic descent as you say! What was the ski mountaineering addition you added out of curiousity?

Our Wild Roots thanks for answering! We toured up to Aiguille du Plan! You can see it in my profile, it’s the Chamonix 2.0 titled video :) I subscribed to your channel, liked this so much!

Nice video. Did the route the previous year. You are correct you need a guide and they are excellent professionals. Apparently the bit at 6:40 wouldn’t be attempted by anyone who saw it in summer. You have a crevasse about one foot either side 😀
@joelcooper7102 жыл бұрын
Y'all missed a massive crevasse at 8:17 when Christine's ski nearly went into the bottom of the side

The terrain looks pretty worn out dang. But surely nice on fresh powow days.

Was thinking the same thing, looks like a ton of work just to say you did it, unless of course there is STASH to be found...

Did this in 1983 unguided. (Not the best idea). The 'knife edge' walk from the tram was half the width it is today, with much less rope provided. We were scared as hell just getting to the start of the run. I remember the Vallee Blanche run itself to be very smooth and very fast - not as lumpy/ bumpy like this. The views remain the same. Terrible music, sorry.
@brunogardien56002 жыл бұрын
I did it around the same time in the early eighites. The initial walk was definitely not as safe and comfortable as it is today ! all I remember is that the moment you had started to walk down to the start of the run there was no turning back ! lol !!! I also remember that we had been able to ski through the trees all the way down to the parking lot where we had left the car in the morning. An unforgettable experience !

I'm assuming you mean the different levels for ski slopes? The colors are different all over the world so this was an intermediate/advanced level. I think a lot had to do with the snow levels for that year.

The valley looks quite easy until about 4:30, although climbing down a windy aguille du midi is a no-no

I'm an expert-level skier but that just doesn't look like much fun to me. It appears to be basically surviving the risk on narrow shelves - one slip, or another skier sweeping you out - and you're on a long out-of-control slide at best, or over a drop at worst. In the U.S., we're used to reduced-risk skiing, whereas in this location, it's all on the individual. I was expecting some broken skis in that crazy ice ravine.

I wish this trend of poorly produced royalty free "happy" electronic youtube crap music would die. Sounds like its made by a toddler. Otherwise, great video.
