Watched the whole topic unfold and it was great fun to watch how the whole argument/debate went through. With Radja starting that the format of having women being able to participate in both, the open tournaments and women only tournaments is unfair. The argument was going well and Soumya kept her view that women tournaments help in encouraging the girls to take up chess as their career which wouldn't have been possible earlier. In the initial half of the argument it seemed to look like that Radja was pressing and going back to his original take about having only one category. I was finding it difficult to digest on how Radjabov was not understanding the importance of such initiatives but I later realised the kind of society they grew up in. This struck my mind when Radjabov was surprised that there are special Women only section public transports in India. Anyways the chat seemed to be biased towards one thinking that someone got triggered. Ps: It was an healthy debate. Big props to Sagar on how he concluded the argument by asking the right questions and being the mediator.

I don't know how putting up your opinion can trigger someone. Everyone has the right to say whatever they feel. I personally completely agree with Radja's point of view. I believe if there is just open category then women will definitely prove themselves and be in the top players and once women start coming in the top, there will be no need for ENCOURAGEMENT for them to take up chess as a career (although I agree that this change should start from junior category and then extended to all age group with time as Soumya said). The top women players will give them the inspiration and encouragement and there will no longer be a need for women category tournaments.. I have this opinion. You can differ, but you can not force your opinion to anyone.

Radjabov is a very straight forward guy. I loved the way he gives his opinion and also logically substantiate his points on legal basis. And people talking about him being ignorant of Indian culture, bear in mind that he was discussing something which is global. Chess is not limited to India. So if he is surprised about women reservation in public places he will equally be surprised by such preferences in the chess world. And most importantly people should just not resort to their own examples that in my family such things happened or such was the situation. Because the problem is, with that logic you'll always have some examples contrary to yours. So, better is to have a holistic approach and bring some statistics to back your argument. And then some silly questions like why Amruta is being asked about what did she cook and why not Sagar asked for that. Then with such questionaire, someday someone will ask that why is it always joked about that Sagar will have to sleep on couch after some argument and not vice versa. Such silly questions makes the discussion a bit childish.

Listened to the whole discussion with a very open mind. One intersting point that came up is whether the system in place to bring equality actually work?. This question needs to be answered in great depth. Also when taking into consideration the reservation system in india for so called backward communities, it has been in place since 1947 when we got independence. It has been 70 odd years already and it is still in place and even misused by many. How long this reservation has to continue until equality is reached? Why is there no improvement even after 70 long years? It is also getting misused, for eg. people very well off still benefit from these reservation system which shouldn't be so. If you find time, please discuss this on stream. Thank you for this amazing stream! Epic last one and half an hours❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
@nimitsharma71003 жыл бұрын
Agreed, Thats the main problem with this reservation way of encouraging... what is the guarantee that it will be removed once equality is achieved? The same example of caste reservation system came to my mind.. Been 70 years and I can only see it increasing in the near future.
@sparshailawadi71293 жыл бұрын
I mean, if you think about it, 70 years is nothing compared to the time for which the caste system has existed. So while it is not possible to quantify a time for the reservation system to be cut off, it has to be given more time for its effect to be seen in the larger population.
@Neelinmact3 жыл бұрын
Nimit Sharma well we can certainly look at the proportion of population and their representation in govt ,,, are they politically economically and socially well off like others ,,,, 1000 years of social discrimination does not end in 70 years ,,, reservation system becomes redundant once there is equality ,,,
@speeddemon29013 жыл бұрын
I was Jee aspirant . There is this reservation category for almost everything . which is a good thing (for those who really need it) but also bad. it is like the reservation is based on caste system . It should be more like based on the economic conditions. Nowadays there are many rich family who have reservation as well . in a way it destroys he quality of student coming into to the most prestigious colleges , because a general candidate needs to crack into the top 10000 to get a proper shot into IIT . But a reserved candidate needs to get 50000 rank only . so you see the better deserving candidates dont get the college that they want . this ruins the quality of the students coming out of IITs etc. a strong evidence to support my point is that the iit have slipped in the world ranking in the last 5 years from top 100 to around 250, which is really sad to see as Indians are really good engineers but we dont have the proper college to showcase the talent.

You can't say that it will decrease because players like Magnus will earn much more simply because 2850 is much greater than 2550, and Magnus deserves that.

We generally say that encourage women in all good things and i agree with that. But then Why don't we encourage females in tough works like mining, heavy constructions, fire fighters etc. Why those things are always done by men. Why all the marital rights, violence rights are female biased. Everyone ignore and laugh at violence against men. then why don't we encourage men in female dominated things like teaching, nursing etc. In professions like primary teaching and nursing there are reservations for female even if they have majority. Why dont we make it equal rights and equal responsibilities.
@anishajain63703 жыл бұрын
Well i agree with everything else you said. But it is indeed true that most men are physically stronger than most women so many women won't be as efficient in physically demanding jobs as men. But i guess if a woman can be as good as a man than they should be encouraged to take tough jobs. Just my opinion✌
@CertifiedGenius0073 жыл бұрын
This is my no-filter opinion on this topic. The business world has taken too much advantage of our physical nature/urges alone and have stunted both men and women's complete growth. They have programmed the whole world through movies, advertising, media etc. over such a long period of time in such a way that men only have to care about a women's appearance and women only have to care about a man's value/power in the society.. This is an efficient strategy to pool back all the money into them. The day we start to not worship what's on the other side of the screen, is the day we are already empowered as men and women. The only thing the society has to ensure is equality of opportunity. If we instead go for equality of outcome, we are doomed.

( this is my personal view,if someone have different then discuss it but don't point fingers; I am not a chess player, I occasionally play chess ) I think 1) In open , prizes for men and women should be equal for prizes. 2) In junior's tournament, there should be no boys and girls section. 3) For women's tournaments, few prizes can be free training for open . 4) Workshops for girls in schools to encourage them. 5) no different titles for women 6) environment where men and women can learn and participate equally.

I want to preface this by saying that I like Radjabov a lot as a chess player and in general as a person. I feel like he is honest and not afraid to say his own thoughts. However, in my opinion he came across as someone who was deeply uninformed and stubborn to opposing views. Maybe it could be because of privilege of being born in a society where these issues are not prevalent but it is extremely shortsighted to think of everything in an idealistic manner. I agree with every single thing Soumya said and most of what Sagar and Amruta said. Yes, we want equality in the society. BUT IT IS NOT POSSIBLE WHEN THE CULTURE PERPETUATES INEQUALITY. This is NOT a CHESS problem. It is a societal issue. And so we need to encourage women to play chess and get the participation at a certain level before even thinking of equality. It will take a long time just like in other facets of society. My two cents. But these conversations are important. I would like to thank everyone who participated in it and I hope everyone who listened to it got a slightly better understanding of the topic and the various viewpoints. I certainly did. Love you @sagar bhai.
