@@lenny108 Oh no, "such things" can absolutely happen in North America and Europe as well. The other day, Aaron Witt had an episode where the mining company had even ordered a special "swamp donkey" version of a big Cat dozer with a roof hatch amongst other modifications, so the operator could get out if something went really wrong and the thing started to sink. I seem to recall it was for a Canadian oil sand mining operation. Finning Cat built it. These guys here are working in even more challenging conditions if anything.

As an ex-Caterpillar and Komatsu sales guy I cringed the whole way through this. Incredible how many bad practices and safety standards they broke. And clear to see the value of well-made gear - this stuff looks like made of TIN. but at 33:20 - gushing hydraulic oil from raising the blade by force - wow. and sitting watching - where you could be cut in half - - not-so-smart-fella's but I could not believe they all stood beside the 320 SHAKING the cable - with the CARBODY of the excavator. Like - Oh My God - and all the while - the dozer's tracks still locked. (I guess getting the engine restarted once dry - - was still impossible? Better to risk cutting a few guys in half? Entertaining...) And they never did get the tracks unlocked - they just moved the site - around the dozer and drug it out.

You can't take them out of gear. The drive cog for the track has a planetary gear on the shaft. The only way to free run the tracks is to remove the planetary gear assembly. The machine has to be on dry land and jacked up to do that.

I'm an engineer, and guided a huge project once in Sri Lanka. They are Indians, but "Islanders" more or less. First day, we were craning out a huge million dollar heidelberg press I sent from America, and I had like 12 telling the operator, UP, DOWN, OVER STOP STOP STOP NO NO START START. I screamed, "STOp" (Everything got silent) I walked over to the Sri Lankan engineer who hired me and I said, "I can be in charge, or they, or you, can be in charge. I don't care. But I'm NOT RESPONSIBLE if i'm not in charge. Someone, is going to DIE! ONLY I! Give directions to the crane operator, ONLY ME!. Then I heard him speaking to everyone in Sinhala, and everything was fine. I got them tuned up, and doing quite well, a few days lager they were moving a section in, I took a break, it was 125 degrees, and I heard SCREAMING. i came running, and one of the presses was precariously having fallen against the building block wall, and ready to tumble. First thing I did, was scream SILENce everyone quiet! Translator repeats me. And everyone sits down, and watches me, I sit down, and just had to study the situation, any wrong move, the machine falls, the building might could come down. And inch by incy, we uprighted it. But it seems like that is how it is done across Asia, everyone is in charge, and nobody has any idea what they are doing.

This isn't an insult, THEY GET IT DONE.... but it is not the right way to get it done. @@brentbarnhart5827 doing it the "wrong way" will eventually get somebody killed. Is that worth preserving a culture?
@brentbarnhart5827Ай бұрын
@@BEDBUGSEPPY Well, you are somewhat conflating what I said. If we are truly talking "culture" which can cover a lot of things, I wouldn't necessarily say that many unsafe things are necessarily "culture" but maybe more lack of education. But some things such as wearing "flip flops" and such, I get tired of the thousands of comments about that. It is 125 degrees fahrenheit or at minimum over 100 . (I of course wear work boots, but I don't ever wear flip flops regardless.) I've NEVER seen one of them injure their feet. You could GIVE them expensive leather boots and they wouldn't wear em. But standing under a heavy load, in the line of a cable under force, lots of those examples are nothing short of lack of education. But what is really sad, is the value of life in Asia. (Trust me, it's not much. You are just 1 of billions, and easily replaced.) So you see employers, and them doing unbelievably dangerous things, that is very unfortunate. But if they DIDN'T, they would be without work. Starving destitute people in Asia? let me tell you, where it starts, there jsut simply is no end. A complete fight for survival. (And they could care less how "we do it," that is just ignorant to even mention to them. 1) They probably already know. but 2) if you watch and listen, you'll find out why they do something opposite, and most of the time the reasoning is EXCELLENT. (My Asian wife walks BEHIND me, and it has nothing to do with misogyny or chauvinism.) And actually, it has to do with safety in a round about way. I actually could never go back to doing things the Western way in many everyday things. But you WILL get me to agree, on educating them on basic, and important safety practices. I don't allow any of it on my job sites. But they aren't required to wear boots or hard hats, or leathers when welding if they want to wear a swim trunk and go barefoot, thats up to them. (I would force a hard hat only in very distinct jobs, where getting a head injury was VERY HIGH, verses maybe only a 1 out, random, out of the blue accident possibility.

This was not as fun to watch as I expected. I agree with the things other commenters said. GREASE the excavator pivot pins! Put the tracks in neutral. Tie the blade up, it was acting as an anchor. The dozer guy finally got that right ideal. The dozer operator dug into the sand often, but did not get stuck. It makes you wonder what colossal negligence it took to get it stuck so bad in the first place. They never tried to start it after it was out of the muck, was the engine destroyed?; seems likely. ALOT of work and I wonder who paid? Any disaster is caused by a chain of bad decisions, break any link in the chain and the accident does not happen! I got fired because I lost a new shovel on a job laying underground cable. What will happen to this guy? OH, and I am still have memory issues.

This rescue was nothing compared to having a dozer completely buried, and that rice patty dozer is the best for what you are doing, on the stuck dozer you should cut round holes in to the pads as that lets the tracks stay loose to turn and they also break the suction. All in god rescue besides the damage, no matter how stuck alway keep the front of the dozer up by putting the blade down.

@54:01, it looks like his left front track is thrown from burying the tracks and the sand packing itself inside of the upper tracks and jamming them up and causing them to go off the wheels, rendering the use of the dozer's engine useless.

Because he is NOT an operator he is a tractor driver for pennies on the dollar

@@macinfloydvolk i have worked my life with handicapped and blind. My mentor was Alvin Pennington who was the safety officer for the Apollo program. He lost his sight while sitting at his desk. He never wallowed in self pity and spent his remaining years teaching the blind at a major university, how to cope. He was a great guy and with the help of his life long friend to guide him, he golfed to a 10 handicap. My dad and I played in his golf tournament every year. Reviewing my post, i said nothing derogatory about you not “seeing” the track. And before i read the post from the guy who did “see” it , I merely agreed with him. You read something into my note that simply was not there. Your snakky and sarcastic comment was not necessary and speaks volumes about your attitude and outlook on life. I offer this: You have life. If you lived in Indonesia you would undoubtedly have been killed but by the grace of God you are here. Make the most of every moment you have and seek out beauty through grace.

The engine breather intake wasn't under water why wasn't it running instead of having the tracks locked and the blade in the ground I guess they work harder instead of smarter

Seems to me they could have pulled long ago with the other dozer pushed with the bucket and finished a long long long time ago. Just saying PS bare feet, and might help to pick the blade up and hook multiple pieces of equipment together to pull.

This was fascinating as none of them had a clue what to do. They made no attempt to put the tracks in freewheel, so it was just a dead weight. They disconnected the blade hydraulics so it could not be used to lift the machine. They tried to drag it out using tracked machines instead of anchoring a machine and using the hydraulic arm to pull it out.

A winch on the dozer doing the pulling would have done the job. Better yet if stuck dozer was running and had a winch winch would have been even better. Winches are the only way to go.
