I did research on this acid back in 2005-2006 and we did a lot of work to try and bring it to market for people with chronic wounds. It has really high efficacy and low irritation and doesn't impede wound healing. We ran into problems when it came to producing it in industrial quantities because it reacts with stainless steel. Good to finally see it in mass market products.

I saw one of your videos on this a few years ago and purchased the skin smart brand. at first, it kinda sat there not being really used until I saw you say something about it helping some people's roscea. I started using it for that and it helps calm it (though I thought it was just controlling the mites not calming on its own). I also have used it when allergies spike and I can't seem to get relief for my eyes. Knowing that, once it performs its function, it essentially just becomes salt water/saline, I figured it was safe on my eyes and it has been helpful there, too. As for going forward - I will try it for exercise. I break out in hives with exercise and the misery that comes with that has made it incredibly difficult to keep up anything that makes that flare, lest it goes too far and I have to use my epi-pen. Knowing this could help gives me some power back toward figuring out a routine I can do and keep up with. Thank you so much, Dr Dray! also, can I (we, your audience) have your references? I used the Skin Smart brand years ago, for my family on our face and eyes for acne and Blepharitis. Also on minor wounds. I forgot about it, mainly price was an issue. Then in May when a spinal neuromodulator stimulator that I recently had implanted caused me to become septic I was introduced to hypochlorous acid again. While in the hospital with this Methicillin-susceptible Staphylococcus aureus infection I had to have the implant removed and all of the infected tissues removed, which was a lot. I ended up with a would vac attached and I needed my wound to be cleaned three times a week. To my surprise hypochlorous acid is what they use to clean my wound. They wash it out with it and then stuff it with gauze soaked in it for five minutes. They used the brand Vashe. I’m off the wound vac and almost healed, but as of this week I get to do all my own wound care so I am stocked with a large bottle and ready to go! My ophthalmologist also told me to start up again with it for my eye care. I did not know it could be helpful for eczema. I will try that tonight as it’s been a huge issue for me.

I’m not a medical professional so this is just what I’ve learned from hearing other word of mouth saying something similar to you. What I think is If your acne is related to certain bacteria or yeast (naturally occurring in varying amounts) on your skin, the spray is proven to help reduce those so your skin isn’t experiencing inflammation from these anymore. The reduction in inflammation therefore helps reduce acne if caused by these things it seems. But if there’s no bacteria or yeast bothering your skin, for example if the acne is hormonal, it may not be as effective since the treatment is not appropriate for the cause. But, it may be very helpful to prevent infections if you happen to pick at your skin because of acne, which may help breakouts already present to heal faster. The dryness may come from the salt in the product which has to be there for the formulation to be stable, it’s in every brand for that reason. To counteract that, it may benefit to let it sit on your skin long enough to dry, then the active ingredient is done working and only salt water is left on your skin so you can rinse it off if you want then follow it with moisturizer.

I bought a hypochlorous acid spray called Optase for eyelids last summer to treat a stye. I got this stye after using waterproof concealer near my lower lash line & wonder if it caused it by plugging it. Is that plausible? Also can this spray benefit rosacea?

If I use a hypochlorous acid spray for my acne, do I need to rinse it off after? I imagine I would use it in place of a toner, but I don't know if I should rinse it off between application and moisturizing.

Hello again Dr Dray, The same question applies for this “CYTEAL solution moussante” (see ingredients below) that was suggested by our General Practitioner (family doctor) but we never got round to making use of it. We are wondering how to use intelligently (if at all). Both “CYTEAL” and “Dermol” look pretty harsh (in that they contain chlorhexidine and other stuff which may be inappropriate), so I suppose my question should be reformulated as below. Q. To clean small cuts and scrapes of the skin what would be your order of preference if the choice is as follows: 1) “Dermol Cream” & tap water (please see ingredients in the previous message below) 2) “CYTEAL solution moussante” & tap water (please see ingredients below) 3) Chlorhexidinedigluconat (50mg/100ml) & cotton wool swab 4) Dove soap bar & tap water 5) Eucerin shower oil & tap water 6) Ethanol (known in some countries as "Alcool à 90°") & cotton wool swab Our thanks once again for your videos and for your kind assistance. ---- “CYTEAL solution moussante by Pierre Fabre Dermatologie Active ingredients (for 100ml of solution moussante): Diiséthionate d’hexamadine 0.1g Gluconate de chlorhexidine (solution at 20%m/v) 0.5ml Chlorocrésol 0.3g Excipients: Alcanamido (C12-C18) propylbétaine (Amonyl 380 BA), di (hydroxyéthylalcanamide) (Comperlan KD), acide édétique, parfum coniférol, acide lactique, eau purifiée. Excipient à effet notoire: Acide édétique (EDTA) Voie cutanée. Nettoyage des affections de la peau et des muqueuses infectées ou risquant de s’infecter.” ===============

Hilarious that this is now trendy. Many YEARS ago I started using Vetericyn's wound care spray (which is HA) for my dog's hot spots and allergy flares...even dabbing it on the face as needed. On a lark, I put some of the dogs' spray on my face on a pimple - that pimple disappeared overnight. We also started using it for first aid for humans as well as dogs -- it actually SPEEDS healing (cuts heal super fast). The Vetericyn bottles are a lot bigger -- more bang for the buck. The same company makes Puricyn for humans, but they told me that the bottle contents are the same...just a different label.

Hi Dr Dray, can i ask something that the tretinoin cream 0.05% if i can buy from the counter in Europe country, do you think that tretinoin cream will be the same quality and can get the same effective results as prescription brand? Is there a matter depending on the brand name for the tretinoin? Thank you so much for your suggestions

Is this as good as benzoyl peroxide for the armpits? Curious the whole benzene thing
@db-gb5xi7 ай бұрын
Dr Dray, other derms, cosmetic chemist/formulators, Lab Muffin have all said that benzene is in BP is not an issue and that the lab that put out the study did faulty testing and not real life scenarios.

She said it was beneficial for itch relief as well as wound healing. I have one of these sprays and on the bottle it says you can spray it directly on the wound. Hope that helps.
