At TMR I'm going thru many of the underground tapes which Skinny Pimp had released locally out the trunk and at stereo and music shops with the help of independent Memphis label Outlaw Records, as well as Lady Bee, DJ Paul, and Juicy J during his time he was affiliated with Triple 6 Mafia. Skinny Pimp and 2-11 were THE DUO in Memphis in the very early 90's coming up alongside infamous underground acts like 8-Ball, MJG, Killa B, Skaface Al Kapone, SMK, Gangsta Pat, Psycho, Lil Ced, Criminal E, Radical T, The Men of the Hour, Zirk, & DJ Squeeky. Known immediately for his tongue twisting, fast delivery style, and unique cadences Skinny Pimp rose to the spotlight as one of the greatest upcoming lyrical talents in Memphis. Also getting him attention by many upcoming producers and DJs who wanted to work with him along with counterpart 2-11. This led to his contributions working with DJ Squeeky and DJ Zirk to Lil Pat, SMK, & Al Kapone, and ultimately DJ Paul; to which he contributed largely (along with Paul's co-producer Juicy J) during the formation of the "Triple 6 Mafia" clique and Skinny Pimp's group the "Gimisum Family." Up until his first national release "King Of Da Playaz Ball" in 1996, Skinny Pimp remained in a relationship with DJ Paul and Juicy J's production at their Prophet Entertainment imprint. He would later cut ties with the "Three 6 Mafia" founders to reintroduce himself independently. In the mid to late 90s, he began working with many artists and producers in and outside of Memphis such as Naughty da Wild Boy in New Orleans, "40 Street" Ed Williams in Atlanta, Playa G and DJ Nite in Nashville, and also continuing to do work with original and affiliated Gimisum Family members including 2-11, Lil Gin, Z-Dog, Lil Ced, Slicc, & the Ski Mask Troopaz etc. He would also later reconnect with original producers DJ Squeeky and DJ Zirk, as well as Slice Tee & Lil Pat in the late 90s and early 00's for many independent releases, hits, and remixes of classic tracks from the very early underground mixtapes. Skinny Pimp has been attributed to the inspiration and creative styles of many aspects of the Southern Rap and Dirty South genres. He is also a prime influence to many other artists and producers in and outside of Memphis throughout the 90s, 00s, and up until today. A few majors names to note being platinum producer Lil Jon of Atlanta of which he also affiliated with during his time with TVT Records, to platinum artist Yo Gotti which actually released his first underground tape on Gimi Sum Productions in 1996. Yo Gotti would also state that Skinny Pimp has always been his idol ever since he was just a kid seeing him riding droptop 5.0 Mustang thru North Memphis pushing underground tapes at the stereo shops. Over two decades later, Skinny Pimp remains one of Memphis's most respected legends in urban music and still remains doing work today with many fellow talents from the past and the present to much independent success.
