There is an interview with Gucci Mane when he is just fresh out of prison, looking like a completely new person, in which he is asked what he believes draws people to his music and what drew him to the music he enjoys. His answer, "I grew up thinking that I knew these people on the tracks. That these people knew me and what I was going through. I didn't just hear a person on a track, I heard a family member I was rooting for to win and get over.". Skinnyman has definitely always been in that category for me. Followed him since I was a kid. The music/lyrics have changed their meanings to me as I have gotten older, been through my own struggles throughout the years and re-listened with a completely different outlook on the world than when I first heard it. And the music grows with you.

I wish Skinnyman had released more albums. Council Estate of Mind was a classic album and one I go back and listen to regularly. Whether he would have been able to top it is another question, but that album alone stands the test of time in UK music.

@@donahboddami my spelling has always been terrible in my defense though like I can never get You're or Yours or whatever other way there is to spell that specific one right either. But spoken language is rather different to written language I think. Like I never get why some people pronounce the word assume "ashume" like there is a "H" in the word when there clearly isn't!!

Did He really just asked if skinnyman is real sorry but skinny has been real for the whole of rap career eeven at his live shows.........I don't listen to big nasty because his music is dog shit....he should ask himself if he's real because i seen him live añ he was about as exciting watching paint dry to wet concrete.......those rappers task force skinny Rodney p roots manava klashnekoff dr syntax made big moves in the uk hip-hop scene so rappers like big nasty have some sort of existence in that game shows he's not passionate about his scene if he had to ask that question to an icon of British hip-hop
@-ghostarchives3 ай бұрын
ngl u have to put respect on big narstie even if u dont like his music, i dont think he was asking that question in a disrespectful way. i think u gotta remember that grime was quite seperate from ukhh, obvs u had london posse and ppl making moves that allowed other ppl to prosper but really grime came from garage and jungle... it defo werent dr syntax laying the foundations for big narstie. big narstie had tunes out in 2003, 2/3 years before dr syntax put a project out, he was with dice recordings pioneers of grime music and if u look through his catalog u will find serious lyrcism. also when this interview was recorded council estate of mind wasnt even released so skinnyman hadnt hit that iconic level yet, even if he was with mud fam etc before. big narstie was probably like 18 in this interview
@jutto669Ай бұрын
Considering I've been listing to UK hh since the 90s and I never heard big nasty untill like 2019 so I can't even hit that with a sensible response and Dr synners was on britania rulz the Airways when he was like 17-18 himself........grime is absolutely dog turd lyrics and dog turd beats and before skinnyman got proper studio time to record a proper studio edited and published album for council state of mind he used to sell copies of a raw recordings of that album on blank disks with no picture no track list just a cd with marker pen written skinny man council estate of mind in Finsbury Park for 8 pound a copy so it's actually been around for a lot longer the only tracks not on that cd was fuck hook and it ain't no big thing....also in that video skinnyman and big nasty look exactly like they do to this day in my opinion grime killed hip hop because I would play a hh track and new gen people would be like oh you like grime and I would say this is hip hop not grime....but now I bet if you play grime people say oh you like drill another shit spin off garage and grime but all that being said that will just keep happening forever through all styles of music because it happened before I was born and it will continue after I'm gone... krs one will always be the best rapper/hip-hop artist that ever existed and he always will be woop woop its the sound of the beast woop woop its the sound of the police people will bop to that tune forever and ever same as they mcs act like they don't know!!!!!!!!
