Even if he wasn't playing the ball, it's a tough argument to make when the ball hits him in the arm and he was turned around looking toward the ball. Intent doesn't really matter all that much imo, only outcome. I think the plays are similar because Butler contacts the receiver slightly early with his body and knocks him over before he could catch the ball. If Butler hadn't caught the ball (or at least batted it down) then I think they may have called PI on the play. The positioning of the players on the field were very different in the two plays, I agree, but they are still similar. Not identical, but similar.

The receiver came back to the ball which initiated the contact with the defender. The defender made a play on the ball. You giants fans should be mad at the turnovers, not the refs. Anyone actually watching the game and saw the play, when the defender got close to the running back Deion Lewis the running back stopped leaning back into the defender because the ball was thrown late and somewhat behind him...rather being thrown to the pile on...if you watch from every angle you can clearly see that the defender Winfield never actually grabbed Lewis or even hooked him in any way...plus the football hit him in the side of his arm....Daniel Jones underthrew multiple passes all night, as well as over threw them as well.....it's not something that should be over hyped...the Giants were slated to lose anyway and to be honest, even with chances to win, they found a way to lose. If you feel the game swayed/hinged over one play then you really didn't watch the game.....a game is won or lost over the duration of 4 quarters.

Thus, that makes it not a "clear" infraction so they had to pick it up. Clear is the requirement. Defense didn't grab the guy, knock him over while the ball was on the way, or pull his arm. Incidental contact within a fraction of a second of the ball arriving ONLY discernable on slow-mo replay??? That's not the definition of clear. And the contact was only even occurring because the receiver suddenly slammed on the brakes (due to the bad throw). That makes it incidental at best, but definitely not enough to hinder the catch. He still could've caught it had it been placed on his chest or out in front (where it should've been). PI should've been called on the QB, not the defense. lol. 4:07 "has the ball arrived yet, Skip?"
