Luxe is the way! And I reached out to shops around here to tune my Durango for my mods and could cost $1000ish to unlock and tune with dyno. You have always been awesome! Cheers bro!

Unfortunately that's part of the tuning your car world, some stuff works some stuff doesn't. I went with the Diablosport, but Its great you are able to share your experience with everyone else so that they dont waste their money. Thanks for sharing.

Love that opening sequence with the donuts in the snow and mud, and then your son with his table top race tie. Great cut in. Otherwise I never really considered this mod. I guess I'm glad I didn't since you didn't get the result you were looking for. As always great videos.

@@RTLife what did you do to your RT throttle because next week I'm getting a 2012 srt8 and I would rather have it over a hellcat. Because almost everybody has one and I'd rather make it my own I'll probably forge everything to the motor I could make it faster than a hellcat that's the route I'm going down

My 3rd mod was the unlocked pcm and Diablo i3 - trans tune and 93 tune I think it was worth every penny. and heres a thumbs up!

They needed to offer the full factory warranty for their parts and their installation. Also, a little cheaper. Stage 1 with maybe 1,100. Stage 2, they should have had the Stage 1 pcm upgradeable for another 100 or 150. Stage 2 kit, maybe 1200 for the kit. The heads were really conservative on the porting. Not worth it in my experience.

Not only that, but the scat packs came onto the scene in 2015, thus confusing everyone with Scat Pack Stages vs. Scat Pack models. For the money, it was better to just buy a 2015 Scat pack. I like the body style of the 2014s and under, but had I known in advance the Shaker would have a 392 option, I might have just waited it out. It's ok, I have a limited 2014 numbered edition and it's really rare to see them on the road.

I have a 2018 Challenger Scatpack 392 6.4L Hemi with 485 HP and 475 lb-ft torque from the factory. Since people are talking 'Dollars vs Horse Power', I think the best bang for the buck - if you want to get more HP - is to trade in the R/T and get a 6.4L Scat Pack. The retail difference in price is minuscule, but the HP/torque difference you gain is HUGE. .... The only reason to go with the 5.7L V8 R/T is if you want to supercharge the car later on... People say the 6.4L was designed to stay naturally aspirated.... But ... if you're looking for raw horsepower out of the box, nothing beats the ScatPack 392, especially if you look at the torque. 475 lb-ft of torque at the crank in the ScatPack beats the Ford GT350 which costs much more...

I learned this the hard way too. I bought the stage 1 for my 2014 Shaker, and I've taken almost everything off by now except for the muffler tips and the mopar CAI tube. Recently had the PCM reverted back to original so I could buy a tuner instead. Stage 2 and Stage 3 were a no go for me in CA. I never did try tuning the PCM before having it reverted, I just took people's word for it that it was locked.

Your Shaker PCM wasn't locked. the 2015+ all got locked up - just added an extra cost to tuning for everyone. The Mopar stage 1 PCM was likely locked though.

@@RTLife I think you misunderstood what I was saying, we're saying the same thing hahaha. I reverted back to my stock PCM because that one isn't locked, but from my understanding the Scat Pack Stage 1 upgrade was locked, the kit came with a PCM swap. I never did try it though, i just took people's word for it, but I'm sure too it was locked.

Yes it is available for 17s and 18s according to the Mopar catalog at a local dealership. I happened to be at said dealership today and just happened to notice that page of the catalog.

I was talking to the local Dodge dealership and they have they're own performance division... they said the only thing an unlocked PCM will void is a computer warranty! They said it's worth the fun to do a tune as soon as you want lol

I just paid $1050 for a Diablo unlocked PCM and T2 Tuner on a 16 Charger V6 and it allowed me to remove the speed restriction I avoided the PCM swap because I wanted to keep my factory PCM for warranty purposes and when you have been restricted to 120 mph and now you are exceeding that is well worth the extra $500 very satisfied plus it adds 20% pedal boost 🤷🏾‍♂️

Great content man!! I just did a PCM swap on my 2016 challenger scat pack and am genuinely impressed with what it added. 500 bucks for 20+ horse. Worth it. Cold air intakes are 4-500 for the same power and nobody bats an eye getting that. 🤔🤔

Agreed! The stage 1 PCM is an absolute waste of money! They advertised it could be further tuned BUT you need a super special double top secret unicorn tuner that no body has or can get their hands on! Pissed me off hard core! Got my Diablo Sport Tuner and unlocked PCM and THAT is an awesome upgrade!

2014 was the last year. in 2015 they started locking the PCM so you couldn't tune it. All you have to do is get it unlocked though - costs a hundred bucks or something like that.

Hey on Diablo website, they offer an option for you to send in the PCM and let them unlock it for you, it costs like $200.

Hey does putting 275 tires all around do any damage to the transmission or engine since there bigger tires now and like I asked before will they fit the stock rim ?? And what type of side guards do you recommend

No you will not run into any issues with engine/transmission - the 275's in the front might have some rubbing issues though. I went with the ZL1 Rock guards

I got 275s all around and there was definitely rubbing up front. I ended up putting 1.5" in spacers all around

If I remember my stock wheels, they're 8" wide. Factory tire size is 245, so yes they'll fit. May be a little wide though. I've got 9" wide wheels on the front of my Chally, running a 265/35 tire with no issues; so you should be good. The only issues you'll run into with different wheel/tire sizes is speedo error. Increasing the overall diameter of the wheel & tire will make you go faster than what your speedo reads. Conversely, going with a smaller diameter will make you go slower than what the speedo says. I believe, & correct me if I'm wrong, you can adjust for this in the Diablosport tuner. I'm getting those rock guards ASAP! I already got their rear diffuser. LOVE IT!!!

Completely agree. I made my decision to pass on the Scat Pack pcm based on your experience with it and the Diablo. Went straight to the Diablo and have not regretted it. As far as Dodge's Scat Pack stage kits; huge opportunity missed. I think the interest was there (for those who actually knew about it) but it's just too expensive for what you get. For the price of all three stages you really shoulda bought a Scat Pack.

Let's be honest, That whole Scat Pack Stage Package was disappointing 8 grand (14 grand total with dealer instal) for about 100 ponies.

I think if you did all 3 with a proper tune you can get more HP out of those upgrades. The tunes they provide are very conservative. that being said getting a custom tune would screw up the whole reasoning of doing the kits lol. It's a cool idea that Mopar should have executed better

And the car no longer runs on regular fuel. Jumps to premium. People forget the point of the 5.7. It’s cost of operation is less than a 6.4 for a reason.

@@ibnmamoo9698 I understand your point, but I'm supposed to run premium gas in my Chally R/T. Reason being that I have a manual tranny. Even says so in the owner's manual. I did run the regular stuff when I first got the car, before I RTFM. The car just runs that much better on 91 octane, so I've never looked back. Didn't buy this car for it's fuel economy. Not to mention, with the 6-speed gearbox there's no MDS! 😉

DJ G-Roc The manual trans guides say 91 but it can def run fine in 98. Scats can’t. V8’s need efficiency if they’re gonna survive.

Well, sorta good news for some folks, the Scat Stage kits are NLA (no longer available). So now you can't go down that road, but then again, there's no warranty-friendly tuning upgrades.

@@RTLife Try to order it, it won't process, or if it does you'll be waiting for "backorder" forever. FCA pulled the plug on the Scat stage PCM about a year ago, with no announcement. Dealers can't get it either. Keep in mind that Arrow Racing was the company doing these for FCA, built to order with the mild tune and unique VIN imprinted, so there's no "old stock" available either, because Arrow and FCA aren't partnered up anymore. Good news is, you can send that Stage 1 PCM to HPtuners or Diablosport and have it unlocked just like a "stock" PCM, so it's not a brick, it's just a spare PCM.

@@RTLife Notice in 2018 they even went to the trouble of locking out the OBD2 port from accepting non-FCA inputs for tuning, requiring the OBD2 bypass trick. I expect by 2020 they'll plug that workaround out as well. FCA really doesn't want people tuning their cars, because it's a HUGE warranty hassle, and the harder they make it, the less the dealership service writers and FCA warranty validation folks have to worry about it, and the better their JD Power survey results look. Sounds like a dick move, but think about how high-strung the 392 and 6.2 cars are, they roll off the factory floor at a very aggressive state of tune for something that FCA has to pay to fix for 5yr/50k, and the way we use those V8's ain't the same way a European performance car owner would abuse it. Mopar guys drag race, with crazy hard launches on prepped surfaces with drag radials, and that stresses the everloving shit out of the drivetrain. And the 5.7 cars, while less stressed, also have less capable components, part of the reason a 6.4 car costs so much more than a 5.7, and strapping on power-adders without doing the rest of the internal and driveline "beef up" that comes with a 6.4 car can and does lead to failures and problems that folks ask FCA to deal with.

I was about to bring this up! I haven't used this myself, but I've used other Jet Performance products with great success. Even thought about getting this before getting the unlocked PCM. Jet has a Stage 1 & a Stage 2 performance module, that plugs online on the PCM. Totally plug & play! Last I checked there was only a $20 difference between the 2. They usually sale for about $300. You need a high flow intake, & free flowing exhaust for both, but you must run 91 octane fuel with the Stage 2. Stage 1 isn't as picky of the fuel. You can get up to 35 more hp I think it is, & like 25 lb-ft of torque. Check the full specs at www.jetchip.com.

That’s what I’ve been saying all along. I’ve tried it on my 5.7 hemi and I had no problems. You must do all the Mods just like the scat pack stage two. When I took my car to the dealership they could not tell the difference.

Ya that’s what I said but maybe he’s got the cmr equipt?🤔 I’m still doing some research. This guy is good and all they do is work on American muscle cars, classic and modern. They work on Dodge and Mopar but he’s more of a Ford guy, so this case may be new to him. I guess there’s only one way to find out.worse case, I’ll have to get the pcm n tuner like I intended to in the first place!..

Ya I'm still on the fence on getting the diablo..Can you put the old pcm back in when you go back to the dealer so they cant tell it was tuned? Also, do you suggest getting the tuner before getting any mods such as intake manifold or headers.

I def suggest getting the tuner before all the mods. Load up the diablo 93 tune - then start modding away. If the dealer wants to screw you, they know the car & pcm miles don't add up (if you try swapping them). Modding is fun but does carry a risk.

I would unlock the PCM 1st then begin modding. Yah a CAI isn't the best bang for the buck but it does help a little. More so looks & sounds good

From what I've seen, read, & researched; if you start changing out the headers you'll need to tune the engine to avoid CEL. You'll need the unlocked PCM for that, so like R/T Life says, get the PCM first! 😉 As for the CAI, you can do that at any time. It does give a little more bottom end torque I think, & a bit better throttle response. Also changes the sound of the motor a little. Gives a little bit of a growl. There are soooooo many options to choose from also. I'd recommend one that uses a dry filter.

I Definitely want to do the diablo tuner!! I got the cold air intake and the borla cat back, its definitely time!! I don't think I need all the fancy details of the Trinity, what do you think about the in tune i3 platinum?

If all you need is a handheld to load up a tune, the i3 is the way to go. With those mods in place a nice custom tune will really make a big difference.

Would having that installed allow you to buy the unlocked pcm put it in get real tune gains then when power train Warranty work like a blown trans happen just pop the stage 1 PCM they installed back in boom...they can detect no tuning done?

I really don't know to much about it. Sounds like a chip that you put into your PCM that has preloaded tunes. Might be solid if if you just need a little extra power & don't want to get to far into modding. Similar to this.

Im not sure if there are any mods I regret so far on my car - when I go ahead and tear the engine apart there may be a few things I backtrack on, but as of right now I feel like I've been on the right path. I was surprised when you were ready to get headers and cam because you were super anxious about voiding that warranty

Just a random thought. You know how you can use the 6.4 intake manifold on the 5.7 in a Charger/Challenger. Would that work on a Ram truck as well?

I'm not 100% about that. That would be a cool mod - just an FYI you have active runners in your manifold. So it wouldn't be as big of an upgrade

Did the same thing had same worries have the Scat Pack 1 PCM and although they claim you can do a custom tune (which was the selling point for me) but come to find out you can't really tune it. So of course in hind sight should have just went with unlocked and a diablo tuner, you kick yourself because you say damn I could have used that $$$ for another mod!!!

I totally skipped that whole process, just seems like a waste of money and time for little gains. I just went with an unlocked diablo pcm threw in a cam and headers with a custom dyno tune to bring it all together. I probably would’ve used HHP instead. Those email tunes and canned tunes aren’t worth it in terms of real hp gains plus having to keep data logging to get an email tune is a process with little changes, unless you have some wizard tuner that can do a proper custom email tune, then it’s not worth it 🤷‍♂️ You’re wayyy better off with a custom dyno tune

you need an unlocked PCM to tune so you have to either swap yours for an unlocked one or buy an unlocked one. You can get an unlocked PCM and tune it now & do the cam down the road. You will still get an increase in performance with just a tune

Would that work in a 2016 Chrysler 300S 5.7L hemi? If so what would you want for it or do you want to donate it lol I would try it for a 1st mod. Nice videos and love the build so far. Ps. I was thinking about doing flowmaster 40's and resonator delete like you did but want to know if there is any interior drone or issues when the MDS kicks in etc... also I have a newborn and don't want it to be too load inside the car for road trips etc.. but want it to sound better when I put my foot down. Any info/advice would be greatly appreciated!

I don't think there is any drone with this setup. My Son never had an issue with it as well. He was 2 when i got it & he never had a problem falling asleep or staying knocked out. It sounds weird when MDS kicks in but thats the price for better MPG

There's a lot of videos with actual real-world dyno numbers with these PCM tunes on a 5.7 naturally asp engines - there's literally NO gains! They claim PEAK 25 HP & Torque, but that's PEAK but on the overall RPM's range there's actually a LOSS in both HP and Torque. Not worth this mod.
