Skipton: Mills and Trade in the 19th century

A look at the development of Skipton during the 19th century - the building of the textile mills as wella s short lived ventures like the Spa. Beyond the Leeds-Liverpool Canal, the town became a transport hub when it was connected to the national railway network with the construction of the Settle-Carlisle line. A line to Grassington is now used for the transportation of limestone from Swinden Quarry. It ends with the tradition of brewing from the Skipton Brewery to today's Copper Dragon Brewery.

Did the quarry ever close though?

The quarry was closed pre-2004, but possible it still has its permit.
