With Skoda having built its reputation on producing affordable, family-friendly cars, it perhaps seems fitting that the Skoda Enyaq iV, the Czech firm’s first all-electric offering, is a large, practical SUV.
Based on the Volkswagen Group’s MEB platform, the Enyaq iV is pretty similar under the skin to a VW ID.4 or an Audi Q4 e-tron, while the same architecture is also used for the ID.3 and Cupra Born models. The Enyaq, however, will be the first to be built outside Germany, at Skoda’s home factory in the Czech Republic.
Buyers looking for an all-electric family car are becoming increasingly spoilt for choice and the Enyaq iV not only has to compete with rivals from its own stable, but also has to persuade customers away from the likes of the capable Kia e-Niro and more premium Mercedes EQA. The eye-catching Hyundai Ioniq 5 and sporty-looking Kia EV6 aren’t just style without substance, either, as both offer practical space together with excellent range and charging capabilities.
Skoda has kept the Enyaq iV range pretty simple to understand, with two battery sizes available: the 58kWh iV 60 and 77kWh iV 80. The smaller battery model produces 177bhp via a rear-mounted electric motor powering the rear wheels, while the 201bhp iV 80 is also rear-wheel-drive. In this review, Nicola Hume explains why it's one of the best all-round EVs you can buy.

Another great review Nicola. Think your reviews are liked so much as with ur usual witty sense or humour u deliver a straight forward easy to understand guide to the car. Its not all stats and 0-60times with u and most people looking to buy a car is more into how it drives and feels and its practicality rather that stats stats stats. Well done 👏

I’ve got one. An iV60. It’s brilliant. But dull. Good for long distance cruising and as the charge network (UK) improves month on month, covering long distance gets easier and easier. It’s extremely well built but the electrics/ecu haven’t been faultless. Mine when back to have its brain restarted, or something, after 6 months. All in all I’d say it’s been a pretty sound purchase…. But I still prefer driving my Freelander 2 (a machine with a soul!). Mine is silver which contrasts the black exterior plastics nicely and she looks pretty handsome.

Looking forward to the second hand EV market in a couple of years, batteries still covered by warranty but prices dropped (hopefully)
@Brian-om2hh
@Brian-om2hh Жыл бұрын
@@Mububban23 I personally feel that the used EV market will remain fairly strong, for a couple of reasons. 1. As the UK's 2030 ICE cut-off date draws nearer, sales of both new and used EV's will increase markedly. 2. We will also see an increase in the number of Clean Air Zone Charging schemes in many UK towns and cities, which will keep demand for EV's (both new and used) strong. And also, as time moves on, we'll see an increase in independent EV specialists - such as Cleveleys in Gloucestershire - whom can carry out repairs and servicing on electric cars (even Teslas). Some will (as Cleveleys already do) also offer battery pack refurbishments, which usually run at a fraction of the price of a complete new battery pack. Cleveleys posted a KZbin video around 3 years ago, of a battery refurbishment on a 10 year old Nissan Leaf. The job took 4 hours, and the cost was £500....
@Brian-om2hh
@Brian-om2hh Жыл бұрын
@@thecraigmachine69 Speaking purely personally, I prefer to pay running costs of 2.5p per mile, rather than 20p plus per mile. And I don't *have* to drive to a filling station to fill up either..... I do it at home on my drive. But if buying petrol or diesel represents value to you, then crack on mate...... I haven't set foot on a forecourt for over 2 years. Are the diesel nozzles still filthy? The price tag of most new cars today is of secondary consideration to most, as the vast majority are bought on PCP agreements. This benefits the used market, as it ensures a steady supply of used ( theoretically looked after) 3 or 4 year old cars to the market.....

It was the best alternative for us, not the IV80 tho, but the Enyaq coupe RS. Family of 5, one of the few cars that are not too large and yet it fits 3 seats for toddlers. Current delivery time are 26 weeks for the coupe version and 46 weeks for the fat Enyaq. 35 min charging time and 8,5 hours drive with the coupe. That is good enough for me. I need to take a break every 3 hours or so, the charging is not a problem. The charging speed with SW 3.0 for the Enyaq's are about 175-185 kW at peak, I think it's quiet good. The efficiency on the Enyaq coupe is almost the same as Tesla Y. It's probably a good reason why Enyaq it has been the most sold car in countries like Netherland and Norway.

It's an SUV, and it's an EV (two things I struggle with). It's also very, very heavy. It get's hideously expensive in mid-spec trim with a couple of options (>£50k). Hate the touch/sliding controls (from VW parts bin), and that dashboard lump of an infotainment screen is one of the worst I've ever seen - it's enourmous. Have car makers forgotten the word 'integration'?

I’ve got one. It’s not an SUV. It’s a slightly (very slightly) jacked up Estate. Not sure why it’s marketed in the SUV bracket. It’s definitely NOT sporty. Nor did I buy it imagining it would be. What it is, is an excellent, dull, safe, easy to drive load lugger. And if, like me, you bought one early (soon after launch), with max gov grant and lower launch rates, you got an exceptionally capable, comfortable, well specced cruiser for under £37k.

A refreshingly different review style by a refreshingly different reviewer. The enyaq is indeed a worthy family car, spacious, practical, easy to drive, well appointed interior that puts so called 'premium' cars to shame. It has everything you could need, except.... The efficiency, which is poor, a particular hindrance for a family car that is likely to be taking long trips.... Then there is the price. Looks reasonable on their sales blurb, until you view the tediously long options and select the "necessary " options. Wow, what a shocker when you reach the final price 🤬👀 Skoda have always had the reputation of producing quality value foe money cars, however they have sadly broke their mould with the enyaq, the quality is clearly still evident but the price point of this thing is a shocker.....no longer the value for money, affordable family car that they were hitherto renowned for. Simply not clever. Such a shame that they have lost their core values..

@Brian-om2hh
@Brian-om2hh Жыл бұрын
At least in the UK when everyone is driving electric, the UK's oil refineries will no longer need to produce 14 million gallons of petrol and 11 million gallons of diesel per day, which, if you consider that to produce each gallon requires around 6 to 8kw of electricity, ought to leave sufficient capacity in the grid to charge almost 4 million electric cars each day. And as most EV's will only need charging once or twice a week, we should be fine....... In any case, the vast majority of EV's will be charged through the night, when the UK's grid has massive spare capacity. It's also the cheapest time to charge, and as most folk *have* to sleep, it's also the most convenient..... The National Grid themselves do not anticipate any issues. The NG were one of the organisations whom lobbied the Government to bring *forward* the ban on the sale of new ICE cars and vans, to 2030 from 2035. But hey, what do the people who actually run the grid, know about running the grid, eh?

I bought a Tesla Mode S P85 back in 2014 now 125,000 UK miles later I charge it day to day off my solar that was fitted in 2012, I just turn down the charge rate to 5Amps = 1.25 kw as I know my Solar system rated at 4kW will always chuck out at least 1.5kW this gets me 25 miles in the car a day when Im out on my Zero SRF motorbike. And when Im in the car I charge the Zero at 1.3kW and get 80 miles in that a day. So with a simple basic system Im running two vehicles at zero cost. As a side point as my Tesla was an early car they came with "free Supercharging for life" so I just charge enroute and BTW Tesla released info that to date they have generated more electricity by solar than all of their cars have ever used and all of their factories combined so yea all powered by the sun. Whats the problem again ?. Ive had this since day 1, here we are solving the problem of renewable energy and the detractors pop up like Wack a Moles "the grid" "the batteries" "too quiet".......LOL
