A tip when replacing the fuel filter: take the protective caps off the new one before taking the old one off. When you take a line off, cap the connection of the old filter. That way you won't get as drenched in fuel when taking the old filter off :)

20:58 The timing chain seems to be a bit long. Not supposed to take that long for oil pressure to build on the chain tensioner to stretch out. Check when the engine is cold if it rattles for more than 3 seconds after having been sitting. I remember the old video of this bad boy

Thanks for encouraging me to do this service, plus spark plugs, on a newly acquired Roomster 1.2 tsi. I hated changing the fuel filter, struggled like hell pulling off the hoses, got petrol in my face. Bad design VW. Cabin filter- I actually put my hand in to find which way the vent blows. Spark plugs - got myself a £40 torque wrench. For pulling off the cables and for pushing them back in, I’m going to get a tool, as when using just ordinary pliers was very clumsy, potentially damaging. Oil change - got 10 litres 5w-40 from Halfords, used 5l to flush. Like the oil filter access. Will definitely consider servicing myself, deep mistrust of local garages. Cheers.

3:07 - the breather hose. There is a good info about it on Briskoda. When I pulled the air filter housing, the said hose popped and I noticed that it’s been superglued on the engine head. There is supposed to be a grommet and the one way valve slides in. How did you reattach yours? Apparently people don’t notice and a petrol smell results.

Need to fill the oil filter before installing. Add oil, then push the centre down with something blunt, it'll allow the oil to enter the filter, continue until no more can go in. Also the oil level should be checked when HOT so you've probably overfilled it. Coolant also is low, needs to be full at COLD. Probably needs brake fluid changed, mechatronic oil changed, hinges oiled, tyres rotated; so quite a bit more.

The breather valve's pipe is broken. I suggest you to replace it, otherwise you'll experience bad smell inside the cabin. Timing chain rattles a bit on start-up: this engine is known for having problems with timing chain components. Check if the timing is correct and eventually replace all the components as soon as possible.

I got my C&G many years ago as a motor mechanic, why do you see people use the old burn dirty oil on oil filter O rings, when you have a 5 litres of new oil just sitting there. Also, why don't people use a measuring jug to pour the fresh oil into the engine. When draining the old oil, remove the oil filler cap and drip stick. Try this next time, drain the old oil, then remove the filler cap and dip stick, and see how much old oil comes out.

Just bought myself a scirocco 1.4 tsi 2016, only 30k miles! Wondering should i bring it to a dealer when next service is due or service it myself as im well educated on motor mechanics.. I know I wont get the dealer stamp but will it affect me when i go to sell the car?

Well if you do it yourself, only you know you have done the job and no one else will know. Evem if you kept reciepts for the parts there is still no proof they have been fitted to your car. The only way the new owner would have an idea is by checking the parts on the car to see how new they look

I would only do yourself if you plan on keeping the car till it dies.
