Some say this tank is only good with premium ammunition? What do you think?

This tank is still very good with basic shells, because the 208mm are mostly enough to penetrate Tier 8 tanks, sometimes against Tier 10 you may have to put on premium ammo if you encounter them frontally, but most of the time you don´t have to load premium ammunition, especially if you are farming credits.

You have to spam gold all the time. The pen sucks. You will always be in tier 10 battles as a tier 8. 208 pen is not enough. Even the gold pen is not that great at tier 10

Every tank have few nice battles. T56 is overrated and his only one power is burst. Other than that every single statistic in base case is avarage.
