cool vid, only point I kind of disagree with is the DLC. BB slogged through a bunch of rereleases and DLC up until CF. Basically BB old heads paid for DLC so you didn´t have to (you´re welcome). Jokes aside, glad you loved the game!

i'm still newer to fgs, first one was strive, bit disheartening to know that the way they monetize themselves was shagged from the start, just in a different kind of exploitative way, glad you enjoyed the video regardless tho :)
@LordKnightfgc Жыл бұрын
Don't worry, it isn't new lol. BB went like this BBCT (60). BBCS1 (60, 2 dlc chars iirc at 5 dollars each) > BBCS2 (free, which was nice of them, 1 dlc char for 5) > BBCS2 Extend (40, no dlc) > BBCP (60, 3 dlc chars, 5 each) > BBCP 1.1 (free again, thanks ASW) > BBCP extend (40, forgot if there was dlc) > BBCF (50 iirc with 3 dlc chars) > current version (I think it was a free update on console, maybe 1 last char). This was over 7 years or so so pretty fair, but people used to complain about having to buy new discs every year. Season passes are cheaper imo, but can really hurt new players if a game has been out for a long time, like DBFZ or Tekken

You're kinda lucky on the DLC front, since CentralFiction was basically released on Steam as the "Extend" version that already had all DLC characters in (Except for Jubei). In the vanilla CF release, Es, Susano'o, and Mai were also DLC, at the same price gouging of Jubei. But regardless, this was one of the most concise and in-depth reviews I've seen in a while. You didn't go out on tangents, you didn't devolve the video into becoming a guide, and you kept everything easy to digest, barring a few bits of fighter lingo that people new to the genre might struggle to understand, but those didn't make your points harder to understand. Kudos to you, Nick!

Susano'o was intended as unlockable-through-story-mode character, so buying him was just "I don't wanna even skip story" option, but it is true for Es and Mai, they was full price DLC for PS3/4 version, while PC and Switch have all DLC right from start (Switch even has Jubei in for free) Sorry for 🤓 session, just wanted to point out on fact Susano'o was technically free

Blazblue wasn’t my first fighting game, but it’s definitely my main one. When I first played it, I wanted to play Izanami because I thought her astral looked cool, dropped her due to the execution barrier, since my only fighting game experience was abusing Xrd Ramlethal sword normals, picked up Terumi, and never looked back. You're totally right about the look of the game; I am colorblind and have photosensitive epilepsy so I have trouble when there's a billion sparks or stupidly themed colors throughout. This colors and vfx in this game pop like no other fighting game out there and it's not a stuck to the ground footsie game. I can 6a anything as Terumi cos I can actually react. I first saw the manga, then the anime, and then I got to know that it was a fighting game series. I was jumping all hyped up when I saw that CF was so cheap. It was a great alternative for when DBFZ was not available in my region, and guess what? A few weeks later, rollback update, it was perfect. I kept playing the game, finding all the music, going through combo trials, looking up mixups & combos and oh... the game is so freaking entertaining to watch in a competitive venue. Tons of tourneys passed by and I'd just watch them all the way through. Then I saw that its community was even cooler, I mean, people who got the sauce and know tons of memeing are cool enough for me. I could play with anyone SEA, mainly Indonesia. I couldn't take a break from the damn thing. The ost is like Dante's unintelligible mixtape. Every time something stupid or amazing keeps happening each session. Talking of stupid, I'm very much into your content and others like Acme Arsenal and Maximillian Dood. It's as if I'm destined or some sh|t to keep playing this game, I love it.

Important note: DLC in PS4 are way more Es, Mai, and of course Jubei and Susano'o for some reason are DLC Susano'o you can get from story mode, which is 20 hours long lol but you can skip all of it if you use the skip button (R2 I thinnk, idk just press all the buttons until the do you want to skip the current scene appears with the skip all text option set) Also some colors... But thta doesn't matter that much The announcers aswell but that doesn't matter much either just put the Susano'o announcer and watch him scream every time someone chooses him There's no rollback on console either so don't fall for that trap Also no instant rematch on console which is kind of annoying??? Still I played 400 matches to 3 rounnds with my friend Max sooo The game is VERY MUCH worth giving it a try, I don't know where I would be right now if I didn't play it If they update it on ps4 in the future immediately pick it up omg, or buy it in pc, or idk do it like me who just bought it because I didn't have a pc IT'S GOOD Also, CARNAGE SCISSORS

one of the othe reasons why i like blazblue CF over most other fighting games is its combo degradation system. this lets a tone of combos to actually exist and lets you switch to what different combo you might need based on the situation, but doesnt let characters effectivly loop infinitly. infact attempting some of the more loop like combos even if they have there limits are normally not really good combos anyways because of when the opponent can drop out

This was a really interesting video for me personally, and I think it fills a very unique gap in the discourse around Blazblue as well as modern fighting games as a whole... despite Blazblue being older than shit XD I've recommended Blazblue to many MANY friends who love fighting games only for them to bounce off like it's made of rubber, and this video both helped me realise why but also that Blazblue was never really FOR them, if that makes any sense? For context, I love this game. I love this series of games, I've been playing Blazblue since I was 14 years old and saw a dual wielding gun kata girl in Calamity Trigger and have been rocking up to tournaments since one long summer getting callouses in CSII. Conservatively, I've been playing for 15 odd years now, and CF is without a doubt my favourite fighting game of all time. With that out of the way, while I concur with this video, I have to offer a warning: this game is NOT for everyone and it can be played 'wrong'. If you want to quickly jump online and start having deep and meaningful mind games with another player... this is not the fighting game for you. It just isn't. You will get hit, confirmed into a short combo, will try and roll and loss half your health bar and then you will try and block and get mixed up 9 ways to Sunday by a character specific mixup and die without ever making a meaningful choice. And that will happen many MANY times to you. If you have friends the same level to play with, this will NOT happen to you. You will marvel at the insane bullshit this game allows you to do, constantly fuck up and have a great time doing so. But trying to jump online with randoms and you will die in horrific, shameful ways. But... that isn't why you should play Blazblue. This video is why you should play Blazblue. Because if you are the kind of person who simple wants to be rewarded for time and money invested and has plenty of the former and none of the latter, you simply cannot do better. The man here said it best, this game never stops giving. There is simply no other fighter I could or would have invested 15 years into as a series, there likely never will be again. This game doesn't care about giving you a fun experience for a few hours before another price tag rolls around, or even 20-50-100 hours of fun. This game wants every second you spend with it to be a new experience, a chance to learn something cool, try something unique, find some way to challenge yourself. And it doesn't care if you do that for 5 hours or 15 years, it will never stop living up to that promise. There is no other fighting game that rewards you quite the same way for what you put into it, that is flexible enough in its style and design to fit quite so many aesthetic tastes whilst still being clear and readable for a newcomer to understand. So yes, if you are looking for quick mindless fun Blazblue may not satisfy you, but if you are looking for a game to give as good as you give it... well you've watched the right video. Skoriath, even if you never make another review, I will always be grateful for this one. You did my favourite game proud. Keep doing Ragna 5B resets, you glorious bastard.

When you were talking about the music and brought up "Awaken the Chaos" I remember when i first heard that against V-13 in Calamity Trigger.. It has such a slow build and I always thought "Oh this isnt that great for a final boss arcade theme.." then you actually survive long enough against her and that guitar drops and it's a fucking BANGER. Oh and that bit you played with Kagura looking at Amane intro, the other games that have english va's explain that. He sizes up every match against a woman by inspecting her (including Platinum) and then he follows it up with a line. For example: Noel "If i win, im taking you on a date." Platinum: "Uh...oh no...." Or in the case of amane he realizes it's not a woman (couldnt remember the exact line since i havent played CPE in forever) lol I'm honestly awful at blazblue but this video kinda made me wanna devote more time to get into it again. Don't worry for the story, to understand it fully you would need to play at least from CS. Plus there are light novels that add more explanations regarding the universe, aaand XBlaze and Lost Memories which are actual 100%vns. Though one thing I know you would enjoy are the voices, especially Yuichi Nakamura who went above and beyond to voice Hazama/Terumi. Unfortunately some other talents who voiced Kagura and Valk died about a few years back. Never watch Blazblue Alter Memory unless you care for other remixes of already existing OSTs. Btw Awakening the Chaos is largely considered the main theme of Blazblue, also by Mori, and you would actually hear it while scrolling on gallery mode in the previous titles.

First, it’s great to see some analysis content from you again. In streams I had wanted to ask if you would ever bring this back but always forgot to ask, although I did find your channel through the BB sessions and went back to your older video essays (I always check through and make sure I enjoy all of a creator’s output and not just the one or so things cause otherwise I don’t feel like I’m genuinely supporting them) and really enjoyed them. Even if we don’t get these as frequently compared to what you upload now I’ll be patiently awaiting a vid on Blasphemous II. Second in regards to the dlc thing I’VE BEEN SAYING THIS FOR YEARS. I feel so bad trying to get friends into this genre sometimes cause I can’t count on my hands how many times I’ve introduced one to a game and either a character I know they’d love is locked behind a paywall or just the sheer amount of dlc content makes them feel like they’re missing out on stuff and feel pressured to buy it. It also REALLY doesn’t help when the game is 4-5+ years old and it’s only us playing it so it’s not like they need it anyway. I hope that Lumina sets an example of how to do dlc from now on though I doubt it. I really wish that this was brought up more often in the fgc cause it’s so daunting seeing ‘Bum Fuckler EX^4 @Unload Premuim’ for 4 ugandan shillings then the dlc for it requiring me to sell my kidney, arm and first-born son to have the other half of the roster and stages.

One pretty important thing about dlc in bbcf is that the extra content is only free on the steam version. Console version still has a fuck ton of dlcs

Could you tell me what that song is called? It sounds so damn good but i don’t know where to look
I must ask, as someone who struggled to get into fighters, and only truly got into them this year with dbfz strive and p4au(the game I mainly play) this game has always peaked my interest but looked hard to get into. Like a lot of the characters seemed fun but i didnt know if I wanted to dedicate the time to learn it.

If you want to be able to learn a lot of different characters right off the bat, BB won't be beginner-friendly for you because the universal mechanics are quite deep but each character also plays very differently. However, if you're okay with playing through the beginner combo trials of characters that interest you and picking one or two that you want to dedicate yourself to learning for the foreseeable future, any BB game will be just fine for a beginner.

Really well constructed and honest review. Honestly one of the best I’ve heard. You really did it justice and have a knack for this. I’m okay though if you don’t do this often or at all again. Cheers! Long live BB.

Yep I’m sold. After a long time of eyeballing this game I’m picking it up next sale. It’s a shame I saw this after the steam sale 😅.

Just something I feel like I have to put out there although someone has probably already said it: A good chunk the stuff that is unlocked by default on the PC client is DLC on the playstation store, namely Es, Mai and all of the announcers. Even so you are right, the game has considerably less DLC than pretty much every game after it with only 3 total DLC characters (4 if include Susanoo who you could buy for a dollar if you didn't want to spend half an hour skipping story mode to unlock him for free) and the last major update the series every received being completely free, which was nice considering they used to make us buy an entirely new full price game for a balance update.

you should've mentioned the small modding scene, where you're allowed to put any colors you want, and if other people have the mod, they can see your custom colors the mod also has an in-game currency editor

At one hand Blazblue has the best animated gun kata character I EVER saw. On the other hand I am scared of long combos since I mostly play strive and can't hold simplest dustloops. Actually the big problem with games like blablue or XRD is that online for new players is really hard to be in, and without dedicated friends it would not be fun to be beaten by random Japanese, playing with his foot while you picked some funny grab man and get perished for not blocking at roundstart.

So 2 weeks or so ago I just bought BBCF and GGST with Jubei, Jack-O, Asuka and Testament as DLC but I've only played BBCF (20 hours at this point I think). The original GG was my first game and I WILL play GGST soon but rn my mind's just on BBCF. Got into the game by watching Hazama do aerial stuff in a more badass way than Millia ever could and no joke, stayed cause of your stupid videos. It's been so amazing finally playing the game I see you have so much fun with and ACTUALLY HAVE FUN AS WELL like holy shit some games are just fun to watch or play but this one's great all around. Was planning on learning that long range drill dress dude idr his name, Rachel, Hazama, Valkenhayn, Arakune and figure out wtf Jin actually does but lately been playing a LOT of Lichi and Nine. I just GET them yknow? Also Lichi having a highly sexualised portrait with an ahegao face, shapely body and tenderly holding a big stick do nothing to me as a gay dude is hilarious. Tldr, love the game. Glad I stayed watching your vids on the game. It's been enjoyable, much love. One day I'll play Strive but today I wanna play Lichi against the whole cast

Why I like Blazblue: I'm human filth, which means I value characters with Install supers higher than the rest. In Blazblue, thanks to Overdrive, Install supers are a UNIVERSAL MECHANIC

I really loved playing bbcf, everything from the drip to the sound & character design, but the thing I miss the most in other fighters is the OD mehcanic. So bbcf wasnt my first fighter, but it was the first one where I finally decided to "get good" and actually head to the lab to do real combos, and that was solely because I found out Es could have her sigils stay during OD, and going from being barely able to string a heavy into special, to doing drive loops in OD was the most amazing thing to me. And then I found out BASICALLY EVERYBODY HAS SOME VARIATION OF THIS. Susanoo gets all his unlocks, Hakumen gets to break the game, Bang gets a hecking naruto intro with the music playing and everything. You basically press a button, and get to be the main character for ~4 seconds, and I feel like i have never played another game, fighter or not, that got something like this so right. But not everything is perfect, and for me the reason I had to switch to dbfz is two-fold. First off, while the game is perfect, online is dead specially in EU, which wouldn't be a problem because I have friends to play with, IF NOT for the fact that they put, not 1, not 2, but 3 *REDACTED* characters in the game. Convincing someone to play dragonball because "Look at the cool moves bro", is a lot easier than convincing someone to play bbcf. Even though sparking in dbfz will never even come close to OD'ing in bbcf.

There are a lot of things I want to say, about various things such as DLC (devs have to eat too), and minor corrections. But I will just say, glad to see someone enjoying one of the games that first got me into fighting games, I need to get back in there and actually play some matches. Just not sure if I can find the time for it with the other hobbies I have and the fighting game collection that is my Steam Library.

Yo, this was genuinely a fantastic video! Totally fair if you wanna steer cleer of this content, it's so much work. I enjoyed your insight on the music in particular as it's something that my analysis tend to fall apart on. Entertaining video as well. If I had to point out a critisism, your voice is very monotone in reading this but that's pretty much a problem with everyone starting out with analyitical content. Reading scripts is really hard to make sound energetic and such. Don't let that take away from this video, you blew my expectations out of the water how you managed to say so much without it becoming an hour long video essay
