I think deep inside artists hate when you compare them to someone else. For a creative person's most precious treasure is individuality

I don't know how accurate this is, but I read somewhere long ago that a mermaid can't stop herself from hopelessly falling in love with the man she sees. She then entrances him to fall into the water to be with her, which ultimately kills him. And the cycle repeats. So technically a mermaid kind of love is like a tragic imprint, can't help it, but it won't end well. This is a wonderfully done piece of music. It accompanies what I just wrote really well.

I dont wanna be rude but your wrong what you are talking about is a siren sirens lure men into the water and instantly kill them but a mermaid on the onther hand is harmless a mermaid is just a beautiful creature in the water :3
@alison-castle6 жыл бұрын
actually it's not a siren. what they originally said was accurate, because sirens purposely lure men in with their voice just to kill them. mermaids hopelessly fall in love with human men, the men are lured in by them, and end up drowning - all by accident. mermaids have innocent intentions, sirens do not (depending on the mythology).

So my theory about this video is: a woman is married to this man, but he is too focused on his work to notice her (hence why they are never seen together in the video) and the metaphor is him jumping into the water. The water is his career. She wants him to notice her so she tries to be part of his life "you know I would jump too" and "I'll be your mermaid" are all ways of her trying desperately to get him to love and acknowledge her again but he doesn't and one day she can't take it any more and commits suicide because she is so in love with him and can't bear to think that he is drifting away and the not love her anymore or even leave her; a lyric that emphasises this point is "you should have left me", hence "can't let you go" and also the fact that she says you know I would jump too now takes a new meaning because that actually becomes a reality. And the fact that throughout and at the beginning of the video we see her wandering around in a forest, possibly because she's going to commit suicide, or haunting the forest as a ghost. Maybe both. Now the metaphor of him jumping into the water becomes that he constantly visits the place where she died, wishing he could join her and be with her again. That could be a possible reason why he's so old and she's so young. She is constantly haunting him, her being in a red dress symbolising the fact that her blood is on his hands. At the beginning of the video we see hands being washed, perhaps symbolising the fact that he is trying to wash his hands clean. At the end of the video he can't take the guilt and goes insane, killing himself as an old man. "I will dance with you Among the waves Enclose you till you're warm Like the water's glue" is like her ghost beckoning him to join her in the water and commit suicide like she did.
