Skout Epoch Unboxing

I wanted to chime in on a few questions… I have an Epoch 35” .30 with shrouds and probes to shoot .25 and .30 FX liners. For comparison, I also own an Impact M3, MKII, Maverick, RAW HM1000x, AA S510, Airforce Condor, Red Wolf and Delta Wolf. These electronics are nothing at all like the electronics on the Daystate airguns… A completely different platform. The Epoch also benefits from easily adjustable electronics, LP and HP regulators as well as the dwell. Of course shot count varies by caliber and settings but my Epoch .25, with the FX Superior Slug liner, shooting 45gr slugs at 990fps will get approximately 60-65 shots with an extreme spread over 30 shots of 4fps. Amazing consistency! The Epoch’s trigger is amongst the best, right up there with Delta Wolf or HM1000x. It is light, crisp and fully adjustable. Accuracy is absolutely superb, as are the ergonomics, modularity and shot cycle. The power is absolutely amazing… As I mentioned, I’m shooting the 45gr Zan slugs at 990fps and I’m not even pushing the gun very hard. I was shooting .30, 56gr pellets at 910fps with my HP regulator on only 87BAR! Shot count was through the roof! Yes, the gun is a bit loud but so is the RAW, Impact or Delta Wolf. There are a lot of variables to consider too! I have mine fitted with a Donnyfl Yokozuna, it keeps the report comparable to any other airgun we have shooting heavy slugs at nearly 1000fps. The tune and projectile obviously have an effect on the report. If you keep it tuned correctly, with a good moderator, the bark isn’t that bad. These are phenomenal airguns with astonishing power and accuracy, they’re fun to shoot, easy to tune and fit just right. Someone mentioned that we’ll see how they do based on competition results… Not at all a fair comparison. You have to take into consideration how many of each brand of airgun are in each relay. In my relay at RMAC, I was the only person shooting an Epoch vs probably 15 FX Impacts and a couple other brands of airguns. You have to compare apples to apples. I love my Epoch, I love my FX, Daystate and RAW airguns too. I could never pick just one brand. One thing is for sure, these are revolutionary airguns that are already changing the industry! Skout has many good things coming in the near future, keep them on your radar!

can you get the 22 down to 20ft/lb for field target and than boost the power up to shoot slugs?

If you own an FX Impact , as I do , shot the Skout Epoch when you get a chance ! You will immediately feel the difference on how solid this platform is and the ease of adjustments . The trigger is the best I have had on any gun , bar none and is programmable to your liking . It’s new , and like FX , improvements will be made along the way . But damn , it’s pretty fantastic right out of the box and the FPS spread is better than the FX . No first shot being 40-50 fps and slowly settle to a somewhat consistent velocity . Expensive ? ! is debatable , because I spend a small fortune upgrading my Impact to get to where I am right out of the box with the Skout . Don’t take my word for it . Go test fire one and make your own decision ! Unlike FX and their service department I have experienced , Skout is a cut above in communications and service !

Very well explained. This Epoch is probably the beginning of a new era. The upcoming competitions may provide an answer to our pressing question of whether FX will continue to hold sway.

This gun can easily be a hunting rifle. It has the versatility and the power. An animal doesn't know your shooting excellent groupings on a target. It only knows its own headshot. This gun would be an exceptional hunting gun. The gun has resilient valving...so you don't have to "baby" them. They're engineered with the heavy use in mind. A supurb gun

I can't wait to purchase one. Right now I'm shooting an Edgun Leshiy 2 .30 cal with a 600mm barrel and it is butter. With the Edgun moderator and barrel sleeve, it is quieter than a hamster fart. I have taken out 5 feral hogs within 3 minutes as they never got spooked. I hope the Epoch is as smooth, quiet, and accurate as my Edgun Leshiy 2. It's hard to beat. Great breakdown video.

Let’s put it this way ! If the Skout Epoch had come out at the same time an FX M3 had come out with all its improvement . Knowing all the pluses each gun had to offer ! The Skout Epoch would be the winner !

A setting of 1100 psi on the primary valve and 120 psi on the secondary will get a velocity of 837 FPS on a JSB 50.15 grain Diabolo pellet . That setting barely taxes the valving and there is much more velocity to be had with these two valve settings . One big plus , if you so desire, Skout offers barrel conversions . I had my 800mm FX 22 cal converted with a 22 cal probe . Although not yet available by Skout , you can easily hand feed both slugs and pellets in the breach . There is someone doing a printer 22 cal mag for it but I will wait till it becomes available through Skout .

FYI You will find this Airgun to be loud out of the box , however , I put a Donny FL Emperor on the 35” barrel and it is back yard friendly and does not require ear protection . Accuracy does not suffer , however , it is a long moderator .

Great video. I keep hearing that this gun has a higher shot count, but nobody ever gives the numbers. It would be nice if you could get a chart that shows caliber, projectile weight, velocity and shot count. So for each caliber for example a .22 pellet, 18.13 grains at 880 fps 850 fps, 900 fps etc... then shot count for each velocity for that pellet. This way you can really compare this gun to others as to whether or there is a significant shot count increase.

I am getting with the 50grain JSBs 44 shots at 907fps but I am not shooting the gun all the way down to the regulator set point I can do that just to see.

It is noticeably higher than my FX but since I am playing with different calibers , barrels and velocities I can’t give a fair comparison.

This rifle looks to be using the same set up as the electronics that Daystate patented and use in their premium rifles, Alpha Wolf, Delta Wolf etc. Does this mean Daystate have licensed their system out?

These are not the same type of electronics. These come from paintball backgrounds. The valve system and firing system are also different. Daystate does have some good electronics in those high end guns though.

Any idea about the power of the upcoming 35cal? I was about to buy a Western Airguns Rattler 357 for it's power but the Epoch looks more advanced. Any idea if it will match the Rattler in FPE?

​@@DBMMMMM So the .35 with the reg set to 1600psi is getting the 81.02gr pellet going at 905fsp for 147.3 FPE and can be adjusted to 2000psi I saw it can get up to 175.7 FPE with the 81.02 grain pellets.
