I don't know if I'm the only one who notices that the lyrics and the way they sing are quite "childlike" in the way that it feels nostalgic, like when you are a kid and you have the biggest dream ever and you talk to yourself about it. This has me crying on a Monday afternoon. 9 year has gone by since the last Skrillex album. We've all lost a friend or two that we used to go to festivals and concerts with, or friends that we used to listen to Skrillex with. Friends that aren't here to enjoy this album, as much as they would definitely have. I was a kid making music in my friend's garage too - now I can't bear to go back to that place - but I still make music from time to time too. I felt that way in high school. It really takes me back to a simpler time. Anyway, shoutout to our friends that aren't here anymore to enjoy this new era of Skrillex. Skrill revolutionized electronic music - arguably the most influential artist of the 2010s.

@whimseyOFC I literally never claimed that "he made up the style", only that he revolutionized it. And he did. Thousands of people were inspired to become music creators (myself included) mainly because of him, or by people who were inspired by him. His brostep style of dubstep changed the game and earned him countless awards and Grammys. Most electronic music artists today note Sonny as an influence. This is not the place for this arguement

She died in late 2022 after we hadn't seen each other in close to 8 years. She practically told us all what she was doing, it was a few days after the anniversary of the death of someone she loved and she told us all to reach out if we needed to. Its particularly powerful when you realise that this was made during a time where skrillex was generally seen as an outcast in the EDM scene, he'd not released the projects such as bangerang which took his career into the mainstream. I feel like as an artist he's always been a little misunderstood, especially around the time of Jack U where fans turned on him. Despite all genres existing before him, he has done so much for dubstep, trap, techno, and more recently house that he really does deserve the title of GOAT when it comes to EDM.
@DJDilemma1 Жыл бұрын
@@cc3 dont put him on a pedestal. He took a genre which he credits and americanised it making it appeal to people that would have otherwise overlooked it. Hes a good producer but its a bit shortsighted to exclude everyone that came before him and call him the goat.
@cc3 Жыл бұрын
@@DJDilemma1 you show me one instance of him claiming to have invented dubstep and I'll happily eat my words. I've seen skream live twice, and have been a fan of coki, mala, benga, rusko, and the bug since 2010. Every genre evolves from something before it, skrillex's sound was totally unique in terms of the vocal chops but of course it stemmed from somewhere. He is extremely versatile and without a question is up for debate of greatest EDM producer of all time. As someone who lives in london, I can definitely appreciate the fact that dubstep came well before skrilex. EDM in general recieved so much attention in 2010-2012 because of dubstep and it's hard to doubt that skrillex was the one behind that movement. more people googled the search term "skrillex" than they did "dubstep" in the year that the bangerang EP came out. He never started dubstep, he never started trap, and he certainly hasn't invented house or techno but he is able to produce many incredible tunes and with the recent release of "Rumble" has continued to stay somewhat relevant. I don't think the title of GOAT should necessarily be given to the ones who came first, it should be given to the one who had the biggest impact for the longest time which in my eyes is skrillex.
@DJDilemma1 Жыл бұрын
@@cc3 I never said anything about him claiming to have created dubstep. Its my understanding that he got his original presets from Noisia who in their own right have transcended many genres and written genre bending albums along with soundtracks to films and games. If we're talking sound design, they are eons ahead of skrillex, hell even Koan Sound have better sound design capabilities. For someone who has been around for about a decade it just seems a bit daft to claim they're the goat. Come back in 20 years and if he is still around then maybe ill consider it. His first album was big, sure, but then all his other hits have been collaborations.

This song feels like looking back but still feeling that part of yourself that hasn't changed. I imagine Sonny writing this song in the At Risk days and going back home and finding this on a crumpled piece of paper in a journal. The porcupine character is so precious, and it is not lost on me that Sonny teased DGTC with photos of his younger self with spiky hair. You nailed it with this powerful, beautiful song, Sonny! It's going to be really hard not to cry every time I listen. This track clearly means a lot to you, and it means so much to us as your fans as well. Emotional? For sure, but "deep"? It's deliberately shallow/naive because they're roleplaying their 16yo scrappy selves writing music with friends in their garage. Gracias, Sonny Moore.

The melody & the vocals are so good, this song is like a sweetness & a wave of nostalgia, and it's for me one of the most unique songs of Skrillex like with Rumble, but in a completely different register. Pretty nice track!

Not tryna be mean but there's nothing unique about rumble. This song however is extremely unique and refreshing from an artistic perspective.

So many feels from this song. I feel like i put out my porcupine spikes as i grew up, it was instinct and made me feel safe. All along i didnt realize with the spikes out, i was unable to get close to anyone, ever. I have my reasons, we all do, but i do know, we need each other. I really want to bounce with you this summer, i never got to see you, im in the midwest and i will be attending Summer Camp Music festival in May. I hope to see you there, we are ready to go!! I love you all! I love you Sonny!!
