SKS-D sells for US$1000 and the drum sells for US$250 here in Canada. in the US its higher bcos the chinese guns are banned there.

I find the metal reinforced magwell on the sksd complicates mag reloads I think im gonna find a old beater stock and just leave the original stock off

I hope your SKS-D is better than mine. Mine is very picky on mags for reliable feeding. I also have a machinist friend who is making me an ambi safety. I will then modify the stock for the finger relief notch. I have tried for years to locate an orginal Norinco ambi safety. Cool project for me though I think I may just find anther SKS-D or SKS-M stock to modify to have tge metal reinforcement.

the 30 rds T81 mags does works with SKS-D. it might stick the first few times.

Hello my Canadian brother. I assume you adopt Russian stock to Chinese SKS-D receiver. Am I correct? Asking because I was expecting the regular SKS conversation to SKS-D style carbine.

no, that would be too complicated for most people including a hack & mod kinda guy like me. those who dont use machinery end up either destroying the gun or having constant feeding issues.

this change have no effect on the use of the box mags. it only allows the use of the drum bcos of the short neck couldnt reach deep enuff. thats all.

simple. sks-d is partly for investment cos they dont make them anymore and the t81 for shooting. i put a scope on t81 but would never on a "D".

no, you cant bcos its actually a single feed. the original mag is double feed so easier to charge with a stripper clip.

Hey I just got an SKS D today (in Canada). I only now realized that my SKS D has an original SKS pull tab magazine release, rather than the AK style magazine release every other one has. It also has a stripper clip cut out on the bolt, yet the bolt matches numbers with the rest of the gun so it obviously wasn't replaced. Do you have any information about this? Is it possible to swap the magazine release with the AK style on that you have?

sks-d are commercial variants so there are many variation. chinesesks.weebly.com/commercial.html if yours has 18.5" barrel and monte carlo stock then its a variant MC-5D. more value bcos of the short barrel. see mine. kzbin.infojZ223eOWVyA but if you tamper with the mag catch, the value will drop.

You got kinda mislead. There’s a company called Kodiak Defense who did a run of modded SKSs that could use AK mags. While it does take AK mags, it’s not an original SKS-D like shown here, it’s just an SKS modified to take AK mags.

It's too bad that your SKS D had the bayonet lug ground down. The whole point of the D for me is that it still has the bayonet.

not grounded down, it was unfinish to comply with the US ban on scary assault weapons.

It is my understanding that the wings of the lug were removed and then a ball bearing and other material were used to fill in the groove for the better retention of the cleaning rod. On the SKS-M and SKS-Sporter that I have with these neutered bayonet lugs, the added material is evident. I am curious if your receiver is actually marked SKS-D. The SKS-D that made it to the US are not marked SKS-D and they have bayonets and stocks that have the bayonet groove. After the Norinco ban in 1993, there were groups of SKS-D, marked as such, that had the neutered bayonet lug and grooveless stocks that were imported into Canada supposedly even as late as 2002. Do you know when yours was made?
