If the pin holding the firing pin in place isn't coming out easy, do I risk hammering away at it or what?

Hey Vincent, are you getting the unintended firing when you first let the bolt close or is it more in the midst of shooting a mag? I did a little digging and found a post that offers two other suggestions of things to check. This information below is not from my own experience but does bring up some good points and info........ " A slam fire occurs when you cycle the rifles action by hand to load a round into the chamber and when the bolt falls forward the firing pin hits the cartridge primer and sets off the round. A double or triple fire is when the rifle sets off two or three rounds on one trigger pull. It seems to be caused mainly by one of two things...one a dirty gas tube or gas port (that was my problem) or two a worn out sear on the trigger group. (If you get too much oil on the trigger group it can cause the sear to slip as well). Clean out your gas system really good, scrub all the carbon deposits off the pistons and inner surface of the gas tube and ream out the gas port and that should solve the problem. Also make sure that you don't use too much oil on the trigger group components, just a light coat is all you need and then wipe off most of that. If all this doesn't fix the problem, I would replace the trigger group...a worn out sear is dangerous." Hope this info helps

Thanks for. answering my question. It was very quick on your part. As far as the number of rounds fired, nobody can really say for sure how many rounds were fired out of their rifle as they have all been used by either Chinese and Russian armies before making it over on out continent. I'll be looking at another extractor, or maybe swap the one from my other sks and see what it does. I'll keep in touch with you if you don'T mind because parts are sometimes hard to get over here in Canada. Thanks again for doing what you do. It really helps people like me.

You're very welcome, definitely keep in touch. If you are in western Canada I may be able to help you find the part.

Damn, I pounded my pin over the block of wood and I have never gotten it out. I hammered the hell out of it. Any ideas?

Hey, couple things. First...and yes this is obvious so please don't take offense, make sure there is a hole in the block of wood that lines up with where the pin needs to drop, especially if you are having to hit it quite hard it is possible for the assembly to shift slightly and that just a bit of the larger bottom end is catching the block of wood. Assuming that is all good I would soak it with penetrating oil or trans fluid and acetone mixture several times a day for a week. Each time you reapply give it a few light taps. With the corrosive ammo you never know where a bit has gotten into and started a bit of rust or corrosion. Let me know if that helps.

Very helpful, needed a good 3 wacks with a heavier hammer to come out.

Great video dude. I only had quick question for you. I'm having extracting issues with my sks. I have changed the gas tube to make sure it was not coming from there, so the cycling part should be done. Now it is the extracting part. Is the spring in the extractor itself supposed to remain in the extractor, or is it supposed to come apartas 2 separate pieces? Mine (the small spring) stays with the extractor. What could be the issue if it is not the spring itself, and if it is, I should be able to remove the spring out of the extractor, right?

Thanks Pat! The little spring stays in mine as well. So long as it is providing reasonable spring pressure I don't think that's the problem. I would look at the extractor "tooth" itself. My first suspicion would be that it has become worn and is not hooking the rim properly. How many rounds through the gun? Did it just recently start to happen and have you tried a variety of ammo? I know SKS's are very forgiving but possibly yours is a bit more picky with the ammo, I have some 22LRs that will not properly extract certain brands of shells. Also, does this only happen after a bunch of shooting, I have a Tokarev that quickly builds up residue inside with surplus ammo, the shells stick and wont eject until its cleaned. ( I have had that happen with as little as 75 rounds fired).

Hey Cesar, it is in pretty tight, I had to give mine some fairly solid hits. You could try spraying it with penetrating oil several times a day for a couple days first to help break any corrosion inside. Also make sure that you have clearance on the opposite side so that the pin has somewhere to go as you drive it out...not just driving it into your workbench.
