So for anyone that's looking to do this and was turned off by the struggles this guy had.. don't be. I did this install in 15 minutes without a single bit of dremel work or pounding stuff with hammers. A little kroil oil on the dust cover pin and the stopper pulls right out no need to dremel at all. Also remember to put your recoil spring in the right way lol. Bendy side in first!

For pulling that rear pin, a good trick is to grip the stock as if you are going to fire and use your thumb to push the receiver cover forward against the force of the spring. The pin will slide out a lot easier without that tension on there.

I installed a Kwikrail on my type 56. The receiver pin did not really work for me. The rail was still able to move. Since my gun was an old beeter, I installed a 1/4" furniture bolt and lock nut on it. The threads on the first bolt got boogered up trying to put it in, so I ran a 1/4x20 tap through the rail, dust cover receiver. It doesn't take that much metal off, but the bolt now threads in beautifully and the rail locks down solid. 😎👌

I just did the same install last week with a 55 Tula. Same exact issues as you. For the quick release pin being tight, I found that the receiver cover was the culprit. It wasn't moving "forward" enough to be perfectly aligned. I filed off a bit of the ears of the receiver cover, where it touches the receiver at the forward most point. Then I was able to put the quick release pin in with ease

Like the idea of this rail. A newer version allows stripper clips. The problem with this rail is that now you have to use a removable mag. and if you use a removable mag, now you have to do the bolt mod to allow for free drop capability-like an ak. If you do that, then you have to do the mag release mod. By the time you're done, you could just buy an AK - or an AR. After modding an SKS, I learned that its original configuration is as good as it gets, for a 100-300 yard rifle. If you want a scoped and VERY accurate rifle in 7.62x39, buy a Ruger American Ranch rifle for around $500. Yes its a bolt action, but very gets 0.5 MOA at 100 yards.
@sarge122122 жыл бұрын
You talk as if people did modifications in order NOT to buy an AK or try to turn it into one. Or really expect better accuracy. Nope, we do it because it's fun and we got bored with the gun in it's original state. 😎👌

Yep I got that in my basket on Amazon right now but I went and watched your video but now I'm going to go purchase it about your pen that you put in with the hammer you probably should have put it in on the right hand side because that's the side that you pull the pin out of when you dremeled it so your ring for pulling it you should have your pin work in the same way that the other pin worked I don't know if that would make it looser or not but I'm just one of those people that everything whatever way it was before I go the same way with it.

The SKS is a really good gun. The People's Army Viet Nam used these with great success for many decades and preferred them to Kalashnikov for general infantry use. @jamesranger62834 жыл бұрын
There are some Russian sks rifles that have a pin in the front sight. it is small and kind of small and tough to see. Check otherwise you will be pounding and yanking till the cows come home. knock it out first and the front sight will take very little effort to remove. Rear take down pin drill a small back hole above the pin and knock the locking pin out from the back. Some pins are mushroom shaped and you cant yank them out. If you save the locking pin you can return everything back to original if you wish.

I bought one too but didn't like it after installation. Rear sight end was to loose, moving left and right, receiver cover end had also to much play. Rail it self is long and made from cast aluminum and flexes a lot on a middle, not good for bigger scope. If you are planing to soot over 50-75 yards I would not recommend it.

I tried adding a Rail to my Chinese SKS and it was easier than shown in this video. After installed, the scope was Way out. Had to remove the action and do a Barrel Sight to tune in the Scope. Took it to the range and after 100 rounds go it just right. Probably going back to Iron sights though. A Lot of dicking around for a Scope that is not much better. Still not a Sniper Rifle. With a Scope there's a spot for the shells to be ejected but it must be Hand loaded 1 round at a time. Reverting back will allow me to use Stripper Clips and a Quicker reload. Fun build, but not worth the results.

I don't think i would be trying to pull that little retainer pin out with pliers. A 1/16" punch and a hammer should get it out tho. You mis-spoke at 3:05 when you said "...to do this we have to remove the front sight." It's the rear sight you're removing, not the front one. Just me nit picking i know, but still, it's nice to not confuse ppl in 'help' videos. The Magwedge instructions are crap, and if you actually did previously watch YT vid(s) on rear sight removal then you must have forgotten what you learned....the rear sight is indeed pinned in place. It's also held by upward pressure from the small leaf spring underneath it. And then you inserted the recoil spring backwards. Sorry dude, can't give this vid a thumbs up...hard to see how it would be of any help to someone who knows little to nothing about doing this retro and is looking for guidance.
@stevemazz31214 жыл бұрын
This is a good how not to mount the rail video.... besides everything else that rear pin is to be put in from the right side of the weapon if you measure the keeper pin you... the pin you ground the pin off of... you will see the ends are different diameters. Plus, how so you load the weapon with the rail in the way? More modifications? Why not just purchase a MP5, a cheap one will cost the same as all the extras and mods to the SKS and be more reliable in the long run....
