What I've always liked about the Juri duels is that they go out of their way to show how far out of her depth Utena actually is. Even as she does improve a bit as the duels go on, she's still no better against Juri by the rematch. In fact, the rematch almost becomes a textbox example of giving dangerous weapons to the inexperienced.

In a duel without miracles and without the Rose Bride, Utena would always lose to Juri. She’s the best duelist on the Student Council. One of my favorite characters and so tragically powerful.

I can say that this is one of the BEST internal fights (if not the BEST ... I don't remember other better than this) of the emotions of a character for wanting to fight against destiny, it is a marvelous plot and script... which unfortunately is no longer found in anime these days, and all without saying nothing, just quick images of the inner thoughts and internal conflict.... simple, powerful, beautiful...

What I take away from this is that Juri is the only one that has the power of miracles herself. She doesn't lose to Dios. She lost to herself. On BOTH duels. Like in so many great works of art, by creating such a great character you end up with two main characters. Juri could be the real "revolutionary girl". This anime is unmatched. Not because it's the best anime, but because there isn't another one like it. One of my top 5 series ever.🌹

... not... trying to take away from the epic battle and the feel of the scene, but... are we not gonna talk about how the rose fell AFTER the Sword of Dios embedded itself into the floor, yet seconds later the rose is laying pierced by the blade?

Being that a rose is easy to stab through, and the blade is heavier than the rose, the sword would fall to the ground faster, the rose would catch the drag from the wind and, with less friction on the blade, be pushed to the very top of the blade near the hilt. This would track since we don't see the hilt until after the rose falls down the rest of the blade, after it's stopped moving.
