I'm listening with my AKG K240 Studio and my Sonarworks to get a flat frequency. M-Audio is closer to the original song in every song for me. JBL has more boost in the high frequencies!

To my ear also, as well as a very slight loss in Sub Bass. Now, go compare the BX5D3's to the KRK Rokit, &, well, to my ear the KRK's sound very similar, more so than these JBL's, but seem a touch Flat. These d3's sound slightly more enjoyable to listen through than either the JBL's or the KRK's, IMHO. I want a pair of M-Audio BX5D3's! :D

Hi! Today we compare one of my favourite 5 inch monitor, JBL LSR305, with competitor from M-Audio. Third generation of BX5 is cheaper that JBL but can it compete sonically? Well the short answer is not really, especially in terms of midrange quality and clarity which is one of the most important ranges when monitoring. If it was my money I would surely send a few bucks more and get JBL. My other remark regarding M-Audio BX5 D3 is that its amps get VERY hot even when the monitors are ON but not playing any music, which is not a good indicator for long term reliability. I like your new format allowing comparing to source. Especially appreciate the time you must now spend editing and syncing 3 sound sources as opposed to 2 sources prior. The JBLs are a great value. More accurate than many on highs and mids. I guess for those that want more lows a powered sub would help out getting low end closer to the source or to larger speakers.

+1dir it is more time consuming for sure. I wanted to implement original track into my videos for some time now but had some technical problems I needed to sort. I feel like this is better way to compare the speakers I just need find the best way to edit it so it does not go into they way of direct comparison of two speakers ;)

Well my bx8 d2s have now been playing without issues for almost 5 years. They've been standing at the end of my room, at a windowsill, with a large radiator beneath. Backs are facing my windows (i know), towards west and the afternoon summer sun with 16 hour daylight(55 degreesN). Ofc I forgot to roll down my curtains sometimes or the sky cleared. Room gets very hot though they are rolled down. They survived direct sunlight several times, through windows with 27-28 c outside, they were burning hot, i couldnt hold on the backplate for longer than a second. One day last year it was very bad, I expected a fair possibility that it would have caused issues. Turned them off to cool. Never imagined hardware of this type to withstand so much heat, at this time 4 years in an already hot environment. So in terms of reliability, yes they get hot, and I noticed that with normal room temperture too. Little hotter than I would prefer, but if this could clarify your doubt, well there you go. :)

I owned the bx5d3 for about 9 months and they are fantastic monitors I use them for production, but one recently went out just completely stopped working. They get extremely hot from the back too so be careful not to leave them on so long. Great monitors but not worth the headache you get when they just suddenly stop working after 9 months.

Am I the only one who thinks the M-Audio closer sounds to the original track, so I guess you could describe them as "flat" or "more flat" than the JBL's? The JBLs sound so much better though. If I prefer the JBL, does this mean I prefer a little bit of "brightness" in the products I listen to?

not really, If it sounds close to original track then it is sounding close to your present headphones. Because u cant hear the flat original track unless have the most flat monitor or headphone.

I don't know if AKG Q701 are the most flat headphones out there, they are close, their not the best at being flat, but I hear a lot of details through these headphones. With the JBLs I hear more details in the highs. I don't know if the JBL's are accentuating that.

@@gdjaybee742 It doesn't matter the headphones you are using, both the original track and the recordings sounds through the same headphones. There is a difference that comes from the mic, which generallly speaking tends to upper the highs and cut the low frequencies. With perfect mic a perfect flat monitor would sounds the same as the original track, no matter the headphones you'd use.

I agreee with you.The problem comes from the "built in" microphone of the portable audio recordings. This type of microphone tends to boost high and cut low frequencies

if have a headphone that is support can use the VTS plugin morphit to correct headphones. If you have a headphone that is support, then can be closer to linear. demo version is here and you can test. i think it work good, because my headphones sound more equal in compare to my arc 2.5 calibrate speakers.

Сравнивали в магазине M-audio bx5 d3 и Jbl 305 mk2. M-audio победили сразу! У JBL середина мутная, пространство узкое. Изначально был нацелен купить Jbl, но услышав m-audio был шокирован тем, насколько четко слышно бочку, атаку малого барабана, и общую картину. Может кому поможет ;)

Вот тоже думаю поменять свои 305-е. Вроде детальность достаточная на верхах, в низ они залазят достаточно глубоко, но уже без деталей, мутно. Это делает их интересными для кинотеатра, тут они реально хороши. Да и на тусовки брал их, мощи на караоке хватало. Для ковыряния в FL, с учётом цены, да, годятся, всё-таки это самые дешёвые 5 дюймов. Но самое провальное - это прослушивание музыки. Они ужасно немузыкальны. Только вот не надо тут про то, что мониторы не должны хорошо играть музыку)) вот и стало интересно, в чем жбл и маудио отличаются, всё-таки цена схожая. 8 дюймов м-аудио кто-то слушал? Как они?

But actually after comparing in a shop the m audio and the presonus Eris 5, I let the m audio where they were. The presonus were so much precise and had a present sound. And 3 persons were agree. Careful with those video,and go try yourself in a shop or at buddies place!

Finally what I wanted to see! Thank you so much for this. I'm using the 305's to listen to this AvB test an I must say, the recorded track coming from 305 is much worse than I expected. Wouldn't be a better approach to use a Recording Microphone like the DPA 4006 or something similar in you budget than the Zoom H6?

I think really m studio bx5 generation 3 is better than anything else in the upper-mid range of this kind of monitors. jbl, yamaha, krk. Then you have professionals like high level gamma of focal or mackie

im not an expert, im trying to make my dream true and with a couple of studio monitor plus a creative soundblasger audidigy rx 7.1 make the best I can. y I have 2 friends expert sound ingeneers and a professional dj, then I saw videos in youtube comparison. They all told me that in this mid-high level sound, the m studio is better than anything else.but i would love to hear more opinions.

JBL has very hyped highs, unnatural and nothing like the source tracks. The BX5 was much closer and clearly the best choice for mixing. JBL probably better as a hifi speaker, but not a mixing monitor.

Off hand, the BX5 sounds more tonally match to actual audio track..but the sound is not as open & airy, abit muffled. The 305 sound more open & airy but is slightly too pronounced at the top end. I wonder if that can be tuned with the EQ setting at the rear. For mixing perhaps the BX5 is better since one is only keen on the tonal balance. But for audiophile playback enjoyment, the 305s are more pleasing to have.

i have the BX5 just for listening music and with proper soucer and EQ they sound amazing, very open if you do everithing right. the JBL sounds more open for sure like it comes litle EQ already.

I would say unbalanced hehe, when my audio alters a frequency in the comparisons they say that it is not flat, it is a multimedia speaker, but if another alters a frequency it has good body, better mids and better highs hehe.

Yes. As long as You get proper cables ( 3.5mm jack to two XLRs for example) you can plug tham right in to the laptop output and listen to music. The only minor issue is that in this case You will have to control the volume from Your laptop. What Edifier speakers You are considering instead of JBL?

Yep. The blurred part is the original track for comparison. I can see that it has a mixed reception but it is something that will remain at least for this series of videos, as an experiment. +Elite Exposure The blur happens when the original source is playing. Makes it easy to know we are not listening a speaker. The transitions are done in the video editing process. He needs to record 3 separate sound sources, line them up in the editor and fade from one to the next while assuring sound levels are as close as he can get them for a fair comparison. Lots of work which I really appreciate because no other channel offers this means of comparison. Even with other factors like room acoustics, microphone characteristics, et al, he offers a good number of useful speaker comparisons that wouldn't be simple to find elsewhere.

Builder not true but if you do buy some just make sure you get some insurance one of mine died at 9 months. I got it replaced but they now make a new model which I have now they have a much clearer highs now, also they are much bigger box sizes

I'm listening on Sennheiser 300 pro monitoring headphones. These headphones are flat for sure. The JBL sound better for listening purposes but the M Audio sound more like the original recording. Tough to say which is better but I suppose the M Audio are better for mixing. I say that only because they sound more like the original recording.

@@nhlanhlazwane1067 the thing is the jbls are a lot more detailed in the highs. so when you're doing a mixdown on the bx5/8's with more bass you are gonna turn your high's up more because it sounds better at the time but then doesn't translate as well to other systems. where as if you turn up the highs to much on the jbls its gonna sound like ass so it kinda keeps you in check. my bx8's were stolen in a break in and were much much louder than the 305's but now i have jbl 305's and a sub so i can check with and with out. the m-audio's especially the bx8's go louder but the jbl's translate better. just my experience.

No, it really is the character of the 305s. Slightly high-mid forward. The BX5, on the other hand, sounded slightly low-mid forward (muffled). Pick your poison, I guess.
